The story begins with a middle aged man, David Preston, caught in the snare of depression. He finds bitter solice staring out of his office window at the emptiness outside to avoid the empti-ness within himself. Then one morning he sees a woman who changes his life and how he views the world. 

After just a glimpse he falls under the spell of her beauty as well as his own desire and imagination. With startling rapidity he loses his grip on reality, no longer able to distinguish the differ-ence between what is real and what is fantasy. Passion and fascination control his life, his thoughts and his actions as he pulls away from his life, marriage and career in his pursuit of this stranger, who unbeknownst to her has become central to his survival. 

His confusion and anger conflicting with his obsession spur him on rather than temper his lust for her, and as David’s world falls apart the reader is carried along with him in this unrelenting, first person narrative of one man's madness. He will stop at nothing in order to claim what he thinks is rightfully his with volatile results that will leave you shaken, thankful it’s over, but wanting more.
