In short, the story is a combination of sad and happy events in the boy�s life, which are both traditional and unconventional and put to perspective real world issues by bringing together the good, bad, hardworking, docile, deceitful, and righteous people.

The beating of the town crier’s drum was so loud and deafening that the entire village was shocked and people started running helter-skelter, towards the village square to answer to the call of the village chief, the Alkalo. It must be 3 O’ clock in the morning and everybody was inquisitive and eager to know what warranted this emergency meeting at such odd hours. Everybody looked drowsy and half-dressed. You could tell they all left their houses in a hurry.
The entire village knew that the drum of the town crier was only used in their village and its surrounding villages to summon the people to an emergency meeting. In fact, not all kinds of emergency gatherings necessitate the use of this drum. So people knew it must really be an out-of-the-ordinary situation that must be unfolding or about to unfold. After gathering the entire village, the chief of the village, came out with a little girl from his hut. The girl must just be about ten or eleven years old. The girl was crying furiously and loudly. The chief started speaking through his announcer, the town crier...
