I’ve been hustling since I was ten years old.
My mom and dad got strung out on this shit
when I was eight. I vividly remember the day I
came home and found both of them laid out on
the living-room floor with a needle stuck in
their arm. At the time, I just thought they were
high, because I had come home many days and
found them like that, still with the needle in
their arm. I didn’t realize they were dead until
the next day when I got up for school and they
were still in the same position. I went over and
touched my mother; there was white foam
coming out of her mouth, and she felt cold and
hard. I called 911 and told the operator I
thought my mother and father were dead.
I guess they had got a hold of some bad
shit. I didn’t shed a tear; I just packed my bag
and caught the bus to my grandmother’s and
told her I found them dead. At first, she
thought I was going to need therapy because I
showed no emotion. I told her I was all right
and that I was used to seeing them like that. To
me, they were just sleeping. I made a promise
from that day forward that I would never use
drugs.
