When a busload of seniors from a suburban Nashville church head down the Natchez Trace on a carefree journey to The Big Easy, they are unaware that a Mafia hit squad is playing a deadly game of tag with them. All except one passenger. The man they know as Bryce Reynolds is really Pat Pagano, a successful Las Vegas stockbroker who was lured into handling investments for a New York crime family. After his two grown sons are killed in an attack by a rival gang and his wife succumbs to cancer, Pagano decimates the mob with his testimony in federal court. He disappears, then resurfaces in Nashville as Reynolds, a retired businessman from Oklahoma. But after years of searching, an old Mafia capo tracks Pagano to the church bus enroute to New Orleans.

A Pleasant Surprise
I don't know what I expected but was pleasantly surprised at this book's delivery. Chester presented these seniors in a honest, interesting way which is more real than usual. He doesn't make fun to them, their foibles and the lapses seniors experience and presents them as a group of normal people who find themselves in an unusual situation. And while the plot was predictable, what happened in the story was not. Once I started I couldn't put it down until I finished it. It was fun. Thanks Chester for dragging it out from under the bed or wherever it was lounging and getting it out there.
Bus Trip Goes Badly
This is not the first book for author Chester D. Campbell and it shows. HELLBOUND is a good read, well thought out and entertaining and I agree with another reviewer here, I am over 60 and I can relate to the seniors on the bus. On a church bus trip to New Orleans, we find out that a witness protected senior is being pursued by the Mafia with all that can happen with that. Throw in a hurricane and away we go. Mr. Campbell can coin a phrase and this little book is worth the read. RECOMMENDED

An Entertaining Bus Ride
Who would have thought a trip with a bunch of oldies (us folk who want to hear all that 50’s music) on a big Greyhound bus would be entertaining? I certainly wasn’t to sure about it but I am glad I took the time to read Mr. C.D. Campbell’s “Hellbound”. Entertaining it is with a nice bit of humor and a touch of romance thrown in. Mr. Campbell definitely knows his way around the English language and writes a very good narrative along the way. His characters are nicely drawn and fun to “meet”.
Pulling a hurricane into the story along with the Mafia chasing their unknown quarry through New Orleans was a nice touch making things more scary to all aboard the bus and you the reader . Mr. Campbell has written several other books and it shows in the crafting of this one. Only saw one editing mistake , at least that I noticed. ( But then I am a senior too..;<) )
If your looking for a cute, fast read, then this book is for you. Even more so if your over 60. You may see yourself in one of these well etched characters!
