The story follows Bethany, a new pest control inspector (a female in a male profession) into an adventure involving a strange man who has a very large rat problem. In fact, Keterick, a police "Rodenticider" from the Inner Earth, has a mission to secure assistance from the Outer Earth (our world) for the eradication of rats – sixty-pound rats – before they eradicate us! Keterick, mistaking Bethany for an expert police killer of pests, and Bethany, thinking Keterick a psychopathic killer, struggle against each other, different lifestyles, and rats to save both worlds. And who knew that a rat could be hero material?

The eyes were the worst -- foreign points of attention; a blind intelligence peering out with the capability of striking panic and fear into a formidable prey. Beady and small were these eyes -- proportioned well for the small head, but caught in a sightless stare like that of a killer shark. The eyes saw, but focused on nothing; and everything, all at once.
And black. Blacker than black. Black with a promise of plague or some other uncertain and horrible death. Black with a knowing sense of power. Black with control.
Bethany shivered but could not elicit another response from her deadened limbs. She tried to fight the panic. Her mind, however, ran rapid with thoughts of escaping, of conquering, and of dying at the mercy of this thing.

Rodenticider is a grisly account of a strange and menacing world just beyond the consciousness of us “Outer Earth dwellers.” This clever tale is full of non-stop action, contrasting the good versus depraved nature of living creatures, both humans and whiskered beasts. The author uses absolute genius to maintain a connection between the reader and the book’s unusual characters, allowing us to experience their intense terror, stubborn pride and underlying compassion. I found myself urging them on; not convinced there could be an acceptable outcome to their plight. Sorry to have it end, Rodenticider is a must read. It left me anxiously anticipating the sequel.
One can really feel the cold grip of fear and terror described by the author. The descriptions are par-excellence! More than a story about fear and loathing, it is a tale about a braoder war between two worlds... and threatens them both. If you liked the old horror flicks of the 1950's, as well as the interesting plots of the likes of King, Koontz, and Straub, you'll like this!
