Denial, he writes, is common. There's no cure for diabetes now, and it is folly to pretend that diabetes will have no effect on the diabetic's life. His strength is getting the diabetic involved in managing the disease and living with it. This he accomplishes with authority and sensitivity.

The book is extraordinary for at least two reasons. I plan to utilize this book for newly diagnosed early-onset diabetic patients [ages 15+ years] with the strong recommendation that it be kept and re-read after the patient has lived with diabetes for at least 5 years.
