The message is that if you leave an abusive relationship now before your self-esteem has been damaged, you open the door to meeting someone truly deserving of your love in the future.
And, probably the most important reason of all is to stop the cycle of abuse from being passed along to our children.
Beautiful nineteen year old Summer Dawn Fields has just married wealthy, devastatingly handsome twenty-four year old Dean Blackheart. With stars in her eyes and love in her heart, they set off to Southern California on their honeymoon. But, before the ink has even dried on their marriage certificate Dean already regrets his marriage, when he meets four sexy blondes at the beach!
The honeymoon ends with Summer realizing that she is pregnant, and Dean wanting out of the marriage. She really loves him, and thinks that she can win back his love by just trying harder to please him. But, the more she tries to make it work, the meaner and nastier Dean gets. Summer is befrieinded by Dean's brother Ryan and his fiancee Rashel, who has seen this all before with Dean's previous girlfriends. But, now that there is an innocent child involved, they try to make Summer see that she cannot live like this.
When it becomes clear to her that she and her son are in serious danger she takes them up on their offer of help to escape. They set off cross country in a borrowed camper to get them as far from Dean as they can in three days. When they must return home to their jobs they leave her in Nebraska, where she hitches a ride with a nice trucker who gives them a ride to Las Vegas. Having had such good luck with the first trucker she again takes the offer of a ride with another who is far more dangerous than her husband ever was! Barely escaping with her life and that of her son's, she is rescued by a very wealthy, handsome young lawyer who offers her his heart and his love if she can only learn to trust again in time!
Excerpt
Dean flopped down on the bed on his back and now watched her through half closed eyes. “Have you missed me?” He asked in a deep hoarseness.
“Oh yes!” She turned towards him and practically threw herself next to him on the bed, cuddling closely to his hard length. “I’ve missed you soo much!” She had teardrops glistening in her eyes like diamonds in firelight. Summer pulled Dean as close to her as she could manage without actually becoming one with him. “D-did you miss m-me too?” She ended so very softly that Dean had trouble hearing what she had just asked him.
He laughed and said, “I’m here now, and I’ve saved enough lovin’ for you too.” He knew full well the effect his comment would have on her, that’s why he said it! Jealousy and pain warred on her face in equal measure, and he watched the results of his words with pleasure. Finally, Summer pulled her face into a carefully controlled mask of disinterest in his lovers.

Best book I've read in a long time. Outstanding writing and well developed characters. Should be a movie.
