Despite the fact that I once knew little Connie Corcoran, (haven't seen her for almost 50 years!)and her natural wit and creative observations as Connie Corcoran Wilson do not surprise me, I am taken with how I harkened back to my first reading of Erma Bombek's If Life is a Bowl of Cherries...as I hooted and laughed out loud.I relate not so much as a fellow former midwesterner, but as a middle-aged human as I lived through her anecdotes after we lost track. e.g. The End!! I have to say many of her satirical stories bring a myriad of my own memories and maybe not so unexpectedly (to others) similarities in our philosophies and approaches to life.
Though I would not be considered a person of wit, I share hometown, old friends, her political views, golf inclinations, even career choice of teachers of "those teenagers", and probably some other similarities. But SHE has the gift of penning in such a humorous way, those universal stories of our lives that are historical, and hysterical, as well as they are current.....the working, career-oriented, politically active woman balancing those roles with wife and mother priorities as well. I recommend that you pick up the book and laugh through it as you relate to many of the anecdotes of life seen through Connie's eyes.

This book of humorous essays was probably extra-funny for me because I live in the same geographic area the author does and recognized many of the situations and characters. I'm more like her politically too, so her ruthless commentary on that front amused me. However, her childhood experiences, dinner party foibles, cell phone aggravation, and medical malfunctions should be universal in reader recognition. This was an easy-to-read book perfect to have at your bedside table to dip into just before going to sleep. What could be better than a good chuckle at that time of day?
