Nudist Among Us is a collection of short stories about a nudist guy living in a small conservative southern community. The antics that he drags his family into will certainly tickle your funny bone for hours.
A Story from Nudist Among Us
From Girlfriend to Wife
In high school, all boys want the same thing. They want cool cars, cool clothes, and to date the Prom Queen. As we getolder, our tastes mature. We want fast cars that are cool, expensive clothes that are cool, and a wife that used to be the Prom Queen and now is the reigning Miss Virginia.
In my high school days, I was no different. I figured thatGod had a plan for me that would include an award winning wife of unmatched beauty. She would be tall, thin, tanned, and have a great personality, while still being able to maintain her balance with her large chest. She would be the envy of the neighborhood.
I prayed to God, in my most humble way, that my futurewife didn’t have to be Miss America. The runner up would be sufficient, so long as she was from the South. I think that I even mentioned the little Rebel Flag that should have been tattooed on her lower left backside. In my defense, though, it was the first time that I had prayed for something with the full expectation of an answered prayer.
Some years later, I found my perfect wife. She was short, ordinary, and easily able to balance her abundant endowment. Of all the creatures on earth, Karalyn was the one woman on earth that could survive, and even thrive, while being married to me. As much as I searched, though, I could not find the Rebel Flag anywhere on her body. I guess that I shouldn’t have been surprised that a Yankee would not have such a symbol, though.
What did surprise me was that God had given me what I
needed to do the tasks are awaiting me on earth. He gave mesomeone that was good with finances, fairly good natured, and pleasant to be around. He gave me a wife that was capable of correcting my shortcoming. Together, we make a complete package.
One of the characteristics that endears me to Karalyn is her ability to follow me into endless numbers of adventures with only the slightest flinch in her expression. Her face never betrays the emotions that must be raging through her mind as she surveys the expanses of my inquisitive thoughts and desires. She would make an excellent poker player.
As a nudist, I wear clothes when necessary. If it is cold out, I wear clothes. If I am going to be in the presence of textile compulsive people, I wear clothes. When appropriate, I wear clothes. When I can, I go without the bondage of clothing.
When we married, however, Karalyn wore clothes all of the time. She wore them to bed. She wore them to swim. She wore them to the dinner table. She wore them to do laundry. I’m not sure, but I think that she wore clothes in the shower, too. Imagine her expression as I walked in the door of our first apartment for the first time, stripped down to nothing, took a shower, and proceeded to sit at the table for dinner naked. I think that "shocked" was a mild form of the words that described all of the expressions that flowed across Karalyn’s face.
Nudism is an integral part of my life. To my wife, however, her husband, the resident nut and overall kooky nudist, is an integral part of her life. This presented Karalyn with a problem that seemed to present two solutions.
Option one was to ignore the naked lump on the couch and see if he would ever grow up, get dressed, get a normal job, and become an adult. After nine years, Karalyn finally gave upand opted for option two.
Option two consisted of trying nudism for herself. This, ofcourse, flew in the face of her Yankee Presbyterian upbringing. With the fortitude of steel, she screwed on her stoic face and headed off to the local nudist park for some summer relaxation and fun. I’m not sure that she liked it as much as she was relieved that not all nudists are compulsive and unrestrained.
Along the nudist way, Karalyn and I have been working through the different little snags that come with any adventure. It was much easier once Karalyn discovered that not all nudists were as bizarre as her husband. She found that many nudists were just plain, ordinary people that liked being nude and also liked being around and interacting with others. The rest just fell into place.
Some sixteen years later, Karalyn is a normal well-adjusted nudist wife. She has been a willing participant in many adventures, encounters, and projects. It is not often that a person finds a woman quite like Karalyn.
I am not sure if I am just lucky or smart, or if God took pity on this lamppost-dumb creature. It has taken me years to find out what God knew all along. Karalyn is the perfect match for me. She may not have a rebel flag on her backside or a balance problem based on the size of her chest, but God did give me the one thing that I needed most from my wife. Karalyn has the ability to understand me.

Nudist Among Us was both a surprise and a rare treat, a collection of short stories, poems and letters offered in a unique manner by author Allen Parker.
Laugh-out-loud short stories with such dubious titles as ‘An Isaiah Afternoon’ and ‘paper Boy’ and ‘Christian Denomination Sorter’ provide oodles of enjoyment for the reader looking for something a little different. The stories all have a common theme, that something being nudism. But don’t let that topic alarm or daunt you – the author has incorporated the subject of nudism into each of his stories to provide delightful, tongue-in-cheek humor, such that the reader finds themselves transported into each story, recognizing something within themselves that an, and will, identify with many of his quirky characters.
Nudist Among Us is very well written, and highly entertaining. The author’s writing style is polished yet ‘reader friendly’ and his wit and droll sense of humor shines through in each story. If the reader is seeking something a little different than the norm, this is a book that will not disappoint. Highly recommended!
