In Fire...I saw the birth of ice
the wind pushed me forward

As the fire rose
one pleasure complimented one

I went on...to walk on time
past and...future
putting my feet in the shoes

ELEPHANT'S SKIN
You don't understand...you see
I'm...Asa!
You're nothing more than a spectator
you see, I became 'ghetto'
idolizing older, but just
other... black fellows
Dropped into elephant's skin...so lost...
but ready to win
'Me' a man child...bone and flesh
went to war against an army
of 'ghosts'...and...
to let you know...from experience,
on the other side, where the dirt lies...
'everything' is pitch black...even
the butterflies
So it is, when one comes out of their arms,
legs, chest, neck and head...color
...doesn't matter

I bought this book in paperback form because I liked the sample poetry and it was a good buy. I'm not disappointed that I bought it because it is a beautiful book, I just wish it was longer. This book deserves a second volume and more. I hope the author keeps writing, his poetry/prose speaks to me, especially because it offers different perspectives on everyday things in our lives that we just don't look at that closely sometimes. I enjoyed seeing the world as a blade of grass and the poetry about his love for his daughter.
Asa David Seeley paints a picture of his life...with prose/poetry. And he does so with an unique reality that has never been done before.
From the first work in this so fine 'collection' to the very last, the reader is taken on a revealing journey, a memoir, which will touch the emotions in a deep and lasting way.
The simplicity of Asa's approach to each well supported and defined theme is done in a captivating style that will be appreciated and
