FEATHERS (The voice of Raphael) c. Sara L. Russell, 28/4/00
I'll wrap you in feathers
deep in enfolded wings
crown you with petals
each one for your sufferings
I am the keeper
of all the thoughts in your head
mine is the shadow
you thought you saw by the bed
Your sorrow's my dark jet
your tears my freshwater pearls
I live in your tiger eyes
where deep water swirls
I'll kiss your crescent mouth
when it will not smile
wrap you in feathers
carry you one last mile.
*Author's note:
I wrote this poem before going into hospital for an operation. Raphael is the name of my allocated guardian angel, according to some information I found on angels online, calculated with my birth date, etc. This poem is me imagining what Raphael would say to me, to comfort me before I went into hospital. On the CD my illustration shows a woman being carried by an angel.
