At work one day, Todd learned Triple A hired a new plumber - a woman named Shay Britt. She had a cheery face, messy sandy hair, and wore no makeup. From the back, she looked like a man; stocky, penguin footed, and wide shouldered. She was friendly, easy going, and a lesbian. She and Todd hit it off immediately. If it weren’t for the baggy clothing failing to ob-scure her breasts, Todd would have thought he was hanging out with a gentle-faced forty-year-old man. She confessed she came from a long line of plumbers and could competently fix a toilet when she was ten years old.
Once or twice a week Todd and Shay enjoyed a beer at the Hole in the Wall. After greasing their skids with several icy mugs of ale on tap, they would chal-lenge one another to darts or a game of pool.
“Todd, the great thing about hanging out with you is the sheer number of babes looking this way. It’s amazing dude!” Shay confessed. “You could have any girl you want. If you’re not in love with Kathy, why don’t you move on? What’s your deal?”
“What makes you think I’m not in love with Kathy?” Todd asked pursing his lips; the dimples in his cheeks deepened. He leaned forward in his chair.
“No passion, dude. It’s like you don’t think about her. You are obviously not in love with Kathy. Question is, have you ever been in love?” She took a long swig of her beer. “Damn that’s good.”
He thought about the word ‘passion’ Shay used. “All women are the same, Shay. They all offer the exact same thing and once I’m in the apartment and between the sheets, there’s nothing left, but I’m not going to cheat on Kathy.”
“You’re a sad case, Todd. All women are not the same, look at me for Christ’s sake.”
Todd noticed Shay’s attraction to a black-haired woman seated at the bar. “Go get her, Shay,” he or-dered, chuckling. “She’s probably not like any other woman you’ve known, right?”
Shay gave Todd a gentle slug on the arm, “You’re a cynical S.O.B. You’re buying the next round.”
A quick feel for his money clip and Todd knew he wouldn’t be buying the next round. He had less than five bucks left which meant he was done drinking. In his entire life, Todd had never been inebriated and now he couldn’t help but wonder if it was because he al-ways ran out of money. If he were a wealthy man, would he be an alcoholic?
Very soon he would have the opportunity to find out.

Todd Ross was busy living and "using" woman after woman providing him with room and board. Suddenly his life is turned upside down when out-of-the-blue he receives an inheritance from his long-lost grandmother but...there's a catch. Todd must decide whether he is going to continue his dead-end lifestyle or step-up-to-the-plate and make a go of a different way of life. He decides to make the change and begins renting out rooms in his inherited mansion to keep the home running. The roommates are all different, each adding to the flow of the story line!
In a round about way, Todd meets and falls in love with the woman that is named in and involved in his grandmother's inheritance. Fortunately, Jack Simmons feels the same and even after learning about some of the games Todd has been playing, she still finds herself head-over-heels in love with Todd.
There is quite a surprise with an unexpected ending you will never guess!
'The Bachelor of Belmead' is a hysterical romance drama. The descriptive characters of the roommates is extremely funny and really have a large part in the book. Well done!
Helen Bea Kirk has an excellent and comfortable writing style that simply flows. I really enjoy her work and think you will also. 'The Bachelor of Belmead' is definitely a five star! I highly recommend this one.
I also appreciated the Christian overtones and enjoyed the addition of the character, Curtis. The Christian theme is subtle, but much enjoyed.
A definite "thumbs-up." Check this one out...I couldn't put it down.
