"Bound In Blood" author David Thomas Lord masterfully introduces us to Jean-Luc Courbet de
Charnac, no ordinary, run-of-the-mill vampire. With powerful command of the written word,
Lord gives nourishment to the mind's eye, moving the story effortlessly from present day New
York to the elegance of Paris in the 1800's then back again, all the while endearing us to his
characters.
We find Jean-Luc, our beloved vampire, both predator and prey. Jean-Luc's feeding on New
York's finest males, which is his richest source for strength and vitality, is not the typical
throat-ripping, moon-howling affair. The seductive nature by which he reels in his prey leaves
the reader either blushing or panting for more. Through Lord's erotic, poetic, yet fast-paced style,
I was thrown into a world of suspense so breathtaking, I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. My
phone went unanswered as I read, meals were late, and attempted communication with me was
normally met with, "Just let me finish this page, okay? Wait, just one more!"
Empathy abounds as each new threat to Jean-Luc unfolds. Not only must he hide from daylight,
which, of course, has the ability to destroy him, but a greater, more powerful enemy stalks him --
his mother. Noel Courbet, an undead herself, is out to destroy her son so that she may gain
possession of the one thing he owns that will guarantee her eternal life. With the police and
news reporters hot on Jean-Luc's trail, his mother locating him, and a Jean-Luc twin who gives
new meaning to the word overbite, readers will be left, more often than not, with their mouths
hanging open and their pulses racing.
The last line of the book elicits three distinct reactions. There was the smile and sigh that all
readers have when they've completed a story well told, the regret that the story had to end, and
finally, wishing the bookstores held more David Thomas Lord novels. Keep an eye on this guy.

Mr. Lord took quite a risk writing this book. The majority of the story is told in the present tense, and in diary format to boot, reminiscent of Bram Stoker's DRACULA. And to not only have gay characters but to have a gay protagonist, our anti-hero, is a risk in itself. For Jean-Luc seeks out the company of these men because he desires them - for their appearance, for their healthy blood, because they make him look better. He is unabashedly gay, unapologetic. It is, for him, a part of his being, no more unusual than his being a vampire.
This was a lesson in the arts: in opera, in modern art, in fashion. This too was a lesson in humanity, with Freudian issues tossed into the fray, taking Oedipal issues to a whole new twisted level. I now know more about two men making love (among other things?) than I even thought I needed to know.
Is the world ready for this? (do I care what the world is ready for? -Feo) Apparently. Sales have been remarkably good for BOUND IN BLOOD. The world, so it seems - wisely enough, I believe - is ready for this book. And rumor has it, for one or two sequels that are currently underway.

A wonderful read - Erotic and horrific. David Thomas Lords writing is like an adventure ride, smooth and subtle then you are steadily climbing to heights where you reach the top and he keeps you there, on the edge, waiting and waiting then suddenly he gives you the nudge and you find yourself falling until you hit the ground. You shake your head in disbelief of how he can control your emotions through words. Wonderful story teller. Read the book 3 times since it´s release and the sequel is just as exciting.

I LOVED Bound in Blood and can't wait for the sequel. I couldn't put it down. THANK YOU for such a great vampire story with a gay theme/setting. I will be first in line to buy the sequel.

I couldn't put it down! It was sexy, hot, charismatic, powerful and so many more things I can't think of right now. I couldn't put it down even to go to sleep at night. I can't wait for the next book!
