In this provocative and thought-provoking anthology, readers are taken on a compelling journey through time. Featuring 75 original poems, topics include: race, colonization, triumph, freedom, war, pride, and acceptance. "Poison" is a book of life's struggles, of life's pain, of its joy, and of its ongoing cycle of transition. "Poison" takes readers on a quest toward liberation from fear, pessimism, and self-doubt. It provides readers with a foundation of empowering words and affirmations with a poetic twist. It gives people, from all walks of life, the tools to disarm the many detractors that have consistently aimed to keep them trapped instead of free, dependent instead of able, and afraid instead of courageous.
Marginalized
Told that my mind doesn't have the
Capacity to sustain intellectual thought
Simply marginalized, but to their surprise,
Just like Angelou "I rise"
See it's the contemporary version,
I counteract their unscrupulous assertion
Sure they said that my work should be confined to the home
And that regardless of how much my craft was honed
That I was never destined to reign on anyone's throne
Sure they said that my actions should spell submission
And that I shouldn't speak but only listen
And of course they said that I shouldn't be insistent
And exclaimed that my future would always be non-existent
But I channel that venom into upward mobility
Because no one but me is dictating my ability
Especially not when my demeanor is in harmony with my soul
I pick up the pieces and continue to go
So understand when I tell you
That I'll be both the alpha and the omega
For I won't come 100 percent, I'll come 10 times better
And regardless of if our contribution has been distorted,
I'll continue this journey not abated and not aborted
Because that flawed ideology of being inept,
Remains a state of mind that I will never accept

The Devil's Demise
You tried to tear away my pride
My unparalleled Essence, you wanted me to deny
The truth is that you were insecure inside
When I was weak, you claimed defeat
You loved the sight of my debilitating cries
But see today you must come to realize
That your motivations, you can no longer hide
And as your evil was created, it will eventually die
And today is the day of the Devil's Demise

Golden Africa
It did not start with colonial times
Prior to that the gold flawlessly shined
It did not start with physical captivity
Prior to that there was immense prosperity
See the world was watching as the torch was lit
It traveled from the North to the South of the continent
The people were systematically taking things higher and higher
Until the idle ones came and burned the entire land with fire
And today the Western world wants to know what is going on
Somehow they got historic amnesia,
Don't know where civilization was born

Broken Promises
Broken Dreams and Broken promises
Would someone tell me where the correlation of
Hard work to success went?
See these blood, sweat, and tears
That I've cried for so many Years
Has reached its limit and is ready to burst
There comes a point in time when you just need to
Satisfy your thirst
I've come a long way and so I know I can't turn back now
When I close my eyes, I can visualize the roaring crowd
But, I'm tired of walking
And I'm tired of running
My legs have been sprained
And my fingers can no longer absorb
The excruciating pain
Indeed they told me that this wasn't for the feign of heart
But, the end of this tunnel right now seems a world apart
