Avoid the dangerous overuse of antibiotics by using natural herbal remedies to strengthen your own immune defenses. * Protect yourself and your family from the misuse of antibiotics. * Learn how to control and overcome infections with natural remedies. * Maintain a vibrant and healthy immune system without antibiotic dependency. When antibiotics were discovered they were hailed as the magic bullet that would put an end to the threat of infectious disease. In fact, in 1969 the U.S. Surgeon General stated that "the war against infectious disease has been won." But in the last fifteen years we have faced an alarming increase in cases of bacterial infections that will not respond to antibiotics. What is more, the use of antibiotics in agricultural feeds and the widespread over prescription of antibiotics has deepened the threat of resistant bacteria to potentially epidemic proportions. Even when appropriately prescribed, antibiotics weaken the immune system by altering the body's natural bacterial balance. While antibiotics have their place in treating acute life-threatening conditions, The Antibiotic Alternative shows how the best defense against infectious disease is to strengthen your own immune system. With advice on stress management and diet and complete monographs of a dozen readily available herbs, Dr. Jones shows you how to ward off infectious disease naturally without antibiotic overdependence. She provides directions for making herbal teas, salves, and tinctures and includes specific herbal recommendations for more than twenty common ailments ranging from acne to wound treatment.

The Antibiotic Alternative
Why use an antibiotic alternative? The reasons to look elsewhere are compelling. Even when properly administered, antibiotics weaken the immune system by altering the body’s natural bacterial balance. They are overprescribed, often inappropriately, and are being used preventively to ward off infections. In addition to weakening individual immune systems, antibiotics have led to resistant strains of bacteria. The author, who holds a doctorate in biochemistry and molecular biology, suggests going back to the basics – building a healthy immune system. Her message? Resist from within.
Dr. Jones recommends various modalities with long traditions of use for treating chronic, non-life-threatening illnesses. Herbal medicine is given prime attention; herbs with immune-system-strengthening and antibiotic properties are highlighted. Other approaches are: osteopathy (the mortality rate for osteopathic patients during the 1918 flue epidemic was substantially lower), anthroposophical medicine, homeopathy, hyperthermia (such as sauna and hot baths), and acupuncture. She also recommends breastfeeding newborns as a life-long immune-boosting and disease-preventing strategy. The benefits of these holistic approaches are fewer side effects, a stronger immune system, and less expense.

Giving this book to patients would be a great way for physicians to educate those that insist on being prescribed antibiotics.
The symbiotic pattern of evolution is everywhere and allows us a very different and fascinating window into the way symbiotic viruses work, since all viruses are symbiotic, including those involved in our human reproduction.
