Book One of a trilogy about a young lady who finds herself alone with two stranded aliens and finds herself joining them on their mission, and will hopefully find herself somewhere along the way.
This is a sci-fi fantasy novel aimed at pre-teen to early teenage readers. It is the first book of a planned trilogy. Previously self-published with lulu.com, but found a supposed publisher. Book currently seems to be sitting in limbo and options are being reconsidered.
Excerpt
"The activity you were watching is a practice routine I use to keep my fighting skills current. On my world, there are forms of fighting in which one only needs the use of one's hands and feet to incapacitate one's enemies, even those with claws, knives, or even more advanced weaponry."
"I think I would like to see an exhibition of your skills. I fear, though, that I shall be dead before you find a chance to put your skills into practice." As he concluded his statement, Hor/10 again quickly retreated into the darkness of his cell. Questioningly, he exclaimed "What was that?"
"What?" Alura asked.
"That noise! Didn't you hear it?" Before Alura could respond, a portion of the ceiling in her cell crashed onto the floor.
"Are you ready?" asked the tinny voice of Brink-o-Link. Alura watched Brink-o-Link lower one of his steely appendages through the gaping hole in the ceiling. "Take hold and I'll pull you up." Alura did just that and felt the rush of air through her short spiky locks as Brink-o-Link quickly pulled her to the roof.
Once on the roof, Alura once again found herself surrounded by thick fog. She could make out the silhouette of the ship. Brink-o-Link was leisurely floating near the large hole he had created in the roof of the prison. Next to him, stood a purple skinned creature in the flowing purple robe. Without hesitation, Alura addressed the new creature, "Did you give some big elephant guy a pair of tinted glasses?"
"Yes, he did." Brink-o-Link interceded before the creature could answer. "That was the reasoning behind his incarceration here. How did you find out about that?"
"That very same elephant guy was in the cell across from mine. While I was waiting for the prison break, I had an opportunity to have a nice long conversation with him about Iftz and Leonid justice. Did you know that he is to be executed as punishment for having had those sunglasses given to him? Did any of you know that?"
"No, but such a very trivial and localized matter is beyond our concern here. Our mission was to find Tik here and deliver him to his uncle Zak," Brink-o-Link replied.
"Could I insist that we make it our concern, please?" Alura implored, with an emphasis on "insist." By way of explanation, she continued, "I‘m afraid I'd be unable to live with myself if I failed to do everything in my power to stop the execution of that gentle creature – all over a pair of sunglasses." She concluded with a sigh.

In Alura Allen, Alien at Large , the first book of his Alien Attitudes trilogy, Terence A. (Tiger) Russell demonstrates his uncanny ability to spin a yarn, interspersing shining filaments of originality with cleverly-woven threads from classic stories. A book which may be read on several different levels, it would doubtlessly appeal to both youthful and mature readers. Mr. Russell exhibits the ability to describe his unique characters in such a manner that the distinct personality of each comes to life for the reader.
As the main character, a spunky and independent--though sometimes naïve--teenage girl, interacts with her newly-found alien friends, even characters which would upon first impression be bizarre and incredible, actually become believable. Though it would seem impossible, even the unique character "R.J.," whose appearance is no more than a blue flash of light, displays a range of emotions which engage the reader, as does another character, "Brink-o-link," whose brain is floats atop a metal canister. Another major character in the book, a muscular, upright elephant-man, will surely win the hearts of readers from his first introduction, just as he drew Alura's sympathy when she met him.
Moreover, the plot is full of action; as the book progresses, it becomes increasingly difficult to put down.
The book ends with some unanswered questions which leave the reader hungry for the second book of the trilogy.I, for one, can hardly wait for the second book's publishing. I would encourage everyone to buy this book.
