Whether we understand it or not, love--and its loss--is something we have all experienced in one way or another. It is what moves us, what keeps us going, what gives life meaning; it is the reason we exist--and, sometimes, the reason we die. Love’s gifts to each of us are the memories it leaves behind. Though the experience of love itself may one day vanish, the memory exists forever in our hearts. And we are the richer and better because of that experience, for “...all that is necessary to make this world a better place to live is to love”. (Isadora Duncan, 1878-1927) We have all known “days of fine gray ash”-- moments when only the warm, lingering memories of love and friendship remain. But how to regain that love, once lost? How to rid ourselves of the pain and loneliness? Within these pages lies the priceless gift awaiting us if we would simply reach out and give of ourselves. It remains only for us to stoke the fire, free the hope that lies smoldering in its embers and love again.

Epiphany
(To Scott)
I remember the rain and you
were there, and how we poured
ourselves into each other
until the thirst had been quenched
love, perfect and new,
washed over us then
like that gentle rain
and cleansed us of all prior desire;
that pure water flows
still, its penetrating power saturates
every fiber of our being sanctifying,
baptizing in love’s holy name
So Cold the Winter
so cold the winter
so cold
the hearts of some
afraid
the ice will melt
so cold are some
so frightened
to offer love
cautious
of giving too much
so protected are they
so sad
the hearts of some
safe
and empty without love
Wedlock
In the mystic moment
Between thought and dream
You come, to take me
Where two can be one
And in that hallowed haze
A Phoenix rises
This woman now reborn
In the fire of love
Keepsake Moments
Be not mindless
Of the mundane moments
While seemingly unimportant
They pass quickly,
Yet command
A lifetime of remembrance
One Plus One Equals One
Scene in a coffee shop
She was alone. He,
On his own. She
Caught his eye. He
Breathed a sigh. She
Blushed crimson. He
Was winsome. She
Threw a glance. He
Took a chance. She
Came nearer. He
Saw clearer. They
Left as one. Love
Had begun.
Sustenance
Our daily bread
Is not food alone
But that which nourishes the soul.
It is the very manna that falls from heaven
And seasons our lives, filling the hungry
With the sweetness of an embrace,
The richness of a kind gesture,
A hearty smile.
It is the cool, clear water
Flowing from the heart no longer a rock,
Quenching our thirst for love,
Giving us purpose
And a reason to believe.
Tumbling
They come tumbling
stumbling
on a beggars night
rumbling
like the thunder in my head
memories
jumbling my thoughts
into confusion
Quiet!
But they will not hear
they cast their recollections
near
(and leave me
with a borrowed tear)
unrepentant
for their intrusion

The songs and art in this book are about our collective emergence after the pandemic and trauma of the last few years - comprised of 5 collections: World as Refuge, Where We Live, In Our Hands, Rhythms of Change and What We See & Sow.
