Drinking is a Cancer.  It surly kills you if continued long enough, and like Cancer it is imperative to discover the root of the problem.  We owe Charles Clapp a debt of gratitude for his watershed   book   “Drinking is not the Problem”.  Written in 1949 it opens the door to the real problem. The real problem is that at the core of all our addictions are relationships.  Once we have cleared our minds of the alcohol addiction, we can clearly look at our Relationship with God, ourselves, and  others . The twelve steps help us address our relationship conflicts. Four years later Bill Wilson came to that same conclusion when he wrote the book the 12 & 12.  He stated - **“Defective relations with other human beings have nearly always been the immediate cause of our woes, including alcoholism”. The book also demonstrates that to keep the miracle alive we must practice these principles in all our affairs. The necessity to practice the 12 steps in all our affairs is borne out by Bill W. It is further validated by the fact that these principles work very well regardless of the addiction and its associated relationship conflicts.
