Love Again, by Sophia C. Simmons, local Kingman, Arizona author, takes a thoughtful and dynamic look at reality and choices that can have a lasting impact on your life. Her story is not unusual although is similar to many women about leaving the wrong man, or even finding a meaningful relationship.

Simmons’ novel is about shame, heartbreak, loneliness, and what it does to your well-being. She thanks those men who broke her heart and the painful lessons which resulted in the writing of this book.

Cynthia, the main character, is a pretty 36 year old woman, divorced from her abusive husband of 10 years and lives in Kingstown, Arizona. She is a strong spiritual woman who raises her children on a shared basis with her ex-husband. She, like so many others in her circumstance, has little money, is lonely, and feels her life is without purpose.

Cynthia’s daily life and dialogue with other colorful characters will make you laugh, cry, and definitely provoke anger at times. Simmons brilliantly depicts Cynthia’s pain by including her own personal journal entries, thoughtful poetry, and bible passages.

Love enters her life again when Cynthia meets the man of her dreams on-line and love blossoms which results in Las Vegas encounters. Every other weekend is a wonderful tryst from Kingstown to Las Vegas and from Las Vegas to Kingstown. They fall in love, interact with family and friends for about a year, and once again Cynthia has another broken heart. He leaves her for his pregnant girlfriend. Cynthia subsequently dates many other men, without success, because she is afraid to love again.

What makes this story compelling is the courage to write about the shame of an abusive marriage and the deep pain felt when your love leaves for another. Simmons is sensitive and personal as she shares her insights from many women she has met whose experiences are similar to Cynthia’s. She feels life does not always turn out the way we want, but better choices in men can lead to a healthier life.

This book is recommended reading for those who are recovering from emotional trauma of broken relationships by providing comfort, meaning, and strength to Love Again.
