The release of my 1st book in May 2007 has been one incredible step for me. The size of my book was purposely done to gauge the reaction of the public. The response was both humbling and amazing, with comments from the likes of John Williamson, Mel from Sunrise, Steve Ahmet from Easylistening 846, Pat Morrish of Far North ABC Radio and many others. This has inspired me to keep writing and I now offer to you my 2nd volume -                                                                                                       “Rhymes of Times”   The leading poem in this book sums up how I feel about my writing, as I write for you! The average mums & dads, the average Aussie who enjoys a story that will open their memory to a time they fondly remember. I write for my family about my family & I write for my friends, but most of all “I love writing because I love writing”, as in this lead poem, I quote:   “I love writing, not worried pleasing experts I meet Knowing at times I miss the meter, rhythm and beat I love writing, like other writers all over Australia Anyone who writes should not be labelled a failure”.   Please enjoy.   David J Delaney.

Review of Rhymes of Times by Renée Barber
Rhymes of Times is a veritable feast
Open, rugged and pure to say the least
From the beauty of the land we all love
To the diggers and their mates who rest above

‘Old Sailor Dan’ finally sailed out to sea
Never even knowing he was grandpa to me

The beat of the bush is sure and strong
Majestic ‘Black Cockatoo’ sings his song

‘Drought’ is a lament heard deep in the bones
An old man’s cry for help drowned by bank drones

Take a stroll through ‘Rainforest Dreaming’
The creatures within will have you beaming

Take the time to savour this delicious treat
It’s a bonzer new friend that you have to meet
You could hardly get more fair dinkum than this book
In fact, I reckon it’s well worth a look!

Australian Poetry Written by a True Blue Aussie

Today, poetry is too often frequently overlooked in our society. Thankfully, modern day poets like Dave Delaney, bring it to the fore.

Delaney’s book ‘Rhymes of Times’ gives the reader an insight into the wondrous culture and beauty of Australia’s exquisite bush country and people. Like all great Australian storytellers, (Henry Lawson and Banjo Paterson) he knows how to spin a fabulous yarn.

A panorama of ideas and themes are in Delaney’s collection, which are powerful pieces and a never-ending source of enjoyment. I have no hesitation in recommending this delightful collection as a must read for all.

First, I must say when this book arrived in the mail, my fourteen year old daughter begged me if she could read it first. As she handed me the book later that afternoon she smiled and told me "It's really good." She loved the photo's, she loved the poems and one even had her tearing up.

So, I thanked her for giving it back in one piece with out tears to wet up the pages.
I have to say her thoughts on the poems are 100% correct. David, you are a master at telling your stories in poetry. I was even tearing up and laughing out loud as well.
I could feel your laughter, your fears and your pain through out each page. Beautifully written and loved by both my fourteen year old daughter and myself.
