Steve Ihnat was arguably the busiest guest star actor of the '60s & '70s, on the precipice of superstardom--only to die an unusual death at 37 in Cannes, France. He had everything to live for....

In 1967, Steve Ihnat was at the top in Hollywood, an actor on the precipice of true stardom. He was seen as both a heavy and a leading man, an actor who could fit any role that came his way.

He was seen on the screen most every night. Star Trek, The Virginian, The Outer Limits, and many other shows were already part of his resume. He'd branched off into movies, finding himself up against heavy-hitting superstars, and more than holding his own. Casting directors rang his phone constantly, and he never wanted for work. He had moved into writing and directing movies, and his personal life mirrored his professional success. Steve Ihnat was just beginning to live the life he'd always wanted for himself.

Yet so many things can happen in five years! Five years later, Steve Ihnat was dead. Suddenly dead! He was a man of international mystery, from the country of his birth, Czechoslovakia, to his home country, Canada, to his adopted country, the United States. His existence had proven to be one of intrigue, not only in the roles he played but in some of the underlying tones of his personal life. It was the late '60s and early '70s, in the midst of the Cold War. There was greath turmoil and change going on in the world....

So much was happening behind the scenes and not even Steve Ihnat could have imagined the plotlines or written the script if he had been trying to put together a movie with him in the starring role ... and that is exactly what he had been doing when he went to Cannes, France. And he died there. Still, to this day, mystery surrounds the circumstances of his sudden passing....

Excerpt
Page 101:

"Steve earned about $70,000 in 1969 as a guest actor, acting on just about every American TV show on the air, a sizeable sum by most any Hollywood standards for an actor without his own starring vehicle. He was seen almost every evening on one show or another. He was repeatedly called back to guest on the same shows, as well as cast in new ones. and he was never out of work.

"Yet he was tired of so often being seen as the bad guy, the heavy, rarely given a chance to expand his range out of the identity. 'My career is at the phase where everybody sees me in a part and says, 'Oh yeah, there's whatsisface playing another whacked-out killer.' This was wearing on him.

"It was that intensity Steve employed in his acting, his determination to fully engage himself and climb right inside the fictional head of his character, and live there, intrinsically knowing how to be that individual in every facet, which made him unforgettable and got him so much work. It was also, unfortunately, probably that intensity and passion which lent his brand of acting so well to the seedier side of humanity. This was both his blessing and his curse. He continued on with television, rarely turning down an offer, as well as taking on more movie roles as they came his way."

Professional Reviews
Must Read
This is in my opinion the best book of 2018 from the beginning to the end it is a page Turner Steve ihnat one of the best actors to ever grace a stage the small screen or the big screen I love this book I once heard that Motown used to judge a record by if you had only 23 dollars would u spend it on a sandwich or in this case this book I would spend it on this book

Finally a book about Steve Ihnat
Took long enough for someone to write a biography about the under-rated actor who did so many movies and TV shows. Character actors deserve recognition because they support the big name stars. Read the book and enjoyed every page. Congrats!

For Fans of Hollywood Bios
This is one of the most enjoyable bios I have read in awhile. Well-written, thoroughly researched, and an easy read. I did not know anything about Steve Ihnat other than he was a busy TV actor in the sixties who I always presumed was older than what he turned out to actually be. He never found super stardom despite being highly regarded in the industry and by his friends such as Gary Clarke and Ed Asner who offer heartfelt memories and insight to the man. And his mysterious death at the Cannes Film Festival is a mind blower. Laden with photos (some from his widow's private collection) though some are printed grainy and small the only minor complaint.
