This book presents a narrative story of one person's journey of transcendental Awakening and Enlightenment as guided by his two Sage companions. It is grounded in Zen Buddhist and Taoist perspective and uses the I Ching as its structural framework. The book is intended for use in I Ching consultation-meditation is support of transpersonal Self Realization.
Fires of Consciousness presents a new and original way of consulting the I Ching from a transcendental and transpersonal spiritual perspective. It visualizes and describes: (1) a photographic image, (2) a wisdom text quotation from among the world's major mystical spiritual-religious traditions, and (3) an Onliness content expressionfor eachof the 64 I Ching hexagrams, to be used for meditative consultation of the I Ching. Such image, textand Onliness expressiondescriptions for each hexagram occur through a narrative story presentation of an individual's journey of transcendent Consciousness Realization; a journey of Enlightenment. This individual is guided by two Sages (a mute man and recluse woman). It is written so as to be adaptable to a staged play presentation format, in addition to being in narrative story format. Thus, it presents an odyssey of transcendent, trans-personal Awakening in the Way of Onliness.

From Ch. 1: The Seed-Core of Tao of Onliness
In surf-spray among the seagulls
on the beach close to the water
learned man and recluse woman walk.
With the tide of daylight ebbing,
late afternoon turning to evening,
as they amble now along the shore.
Solitary silent figures,
side by side strolling together.
Resounding surf in rhythmic pattern
driven by enormous breakers
pound the shore and make it shudder.
Above the beach are rolling sand dunes
sparsely clad in shrubs and grasses.
To the shelter of one sand dune
walk the recluse and the drifter.
Here they sit beside each other
where the breaking surf is quiet
and the vista of the sea is far.
Here the twilight fades to darkness
as they look out on the ocean
with its giant moon ascending.
For a long while they sit silent
viewing this great sea of moonlight
and the ocean breaking on the shore.
Recluse: Learned vagabond, you stumble on in darkness
of mental attribution shadows.
Asleep in thought illusion,
stranded in vacant worlds.
Beloved, what emptiness your Heart must long endure.
A long silence rests between them.
The salt-scent of seabreeze fills the air.
Learned one (Lo): Sage, what you say about me is so true.
But this is what I understand and know,
these intimations I call Onliness.
They are thoughts of egoic consciousness;
conceiver and conceived duality.
This is a time of profound change for me.
A time of dying and of being Born.
A turning and returning so complete
that I come face to face with my own death
and know it as the phantom that it is.
Know Consciousness undying and unborn;
That which I ever Am, have Been, shall Be.
My vacant ego life is endless night
with only glimpses of another Way.
I view the folly of my life unfold
churned up and stirring from some venal depth.
Night after night my dreams cry out to me,
clear and powerful, grim and raging dreams.
In these shattered mirrors I view myself,
see self-indulgent vanity and fear.
Yet in it all a cleansing seems to be,
a modest ebbing of egoic tide.
Learned one turns and looks at recluse
who is is gazing out upon the sea.
He then lies back upon the sand.
