BJ Thompson and George Maderos, scuba diving buddies, find a student diver lost in the kelp beds of the Pacific Ocean. FOUL PLAY IS SUSPECTED. Join them in tracking down the murderer. George has a romantic encounter along the way. Look for a surprise ending.
George reviewed the scenario for (detective) Sullivan. He started with our arrival at the beach for a recreational dive, our recognizing the auro of foreboding at the ocean, our talk with the young couple and the description of Dick Sleep's diving suit, their direction to the keop bed where they had been diving, and finally, our search for and discovery of the body.
The Lieutenant listened intently and kept nodding his head as the story unfolded. When George wound up his summary of the events, Sullivan asked, "Were there any unusual circumstances obvious to you when you discovered the body? That is, other than the fact that he was dead, of course? I guess you both are experienced divrs, right?"
Evidently Pete thought it appropriate to apprise Sullivan of our diving prowess, so he interceded."I've known George for a long time. He and Mr. Thompson have participated in underwater rescue before. I would classify him as an expert diver.I guess that's why you had a float marker with you, I suppose. Right, George?"
George nodded his head in agreement as he said, "Yeah, I usually carry one along when I go diving--just in case."
"And you, Mr. Thompson, you are also an expert diver?" Sullivan asked, looking in my direction.
George spoke up at this point, saying, "Dr.Thompson is a professor of Criminology at the university in Fresno. We have dived together for about five years, and I would classify him as an expert diver as well."

"Oh, how interesting. And now you are diving partners."
"Yes,it is interesting," said George, "and now we want to make it even more so...by inviting you to join our dive group."
"Wow, I'm flattered,"Diane said
