On a sunny day on Joe Jacob's farm, Pigel Piglet sniffed for food. He did not watch where he was going and bumped into a tree.

            "Ouch," Pigel Piglet said, as he rubbed his sore nose, "that hurt.” A tiny tear ran down his cheek and splattered onto the cracked dirt below. His nose ached and it felt funny. He knew something wasn't quite right. Pigel Piglet ran to a nearby pail of water and looked inside. He saw his reflection, and his mouth dropped open as he watched his snout grow three times its normal size.

"It looks like a huge, red tomato!” Pigel Piglet said. "I had better go tell Mama."

            Pigel Piglet tromped across the barnyard as fast as he could. His friend, Lawrence Lamb leaped out in front of him. "Boo!” He yelled. When he saw Pigel Piglet's nose, he jumped back and frowned. "Does that hurt, Pigel?"

            Pigel Piglet lowered his head. "Yes, a whole bunch."

            "Don't be sad, Pigel, I know what you can do. I hurt my knee one day when my daddy was teaching me how to leap high into the air.” He jumped. "I couldn't stand on it. My daddy put something cold on it and it made my knee feel better."

            Pigel Piglet's eyes widened. "Really? Do you have any of that cold stuff that I can use now?"

            Lawrence Lamb shook his head. "Nope, but there is some mud over there," he pointed toward the red barn. "Mud is cold. I bet that would work."

            "Good idea," Pigel Piglet said. "Will you help me?"

            Lawrence Lamb nodded, as they trotted toward the mud side by side. Lawrence Lamb scooped up hoof full after hoof full, and plopped it onto Pigel Piglet's nose. The runny, cool mud covered his swollen snout.

            "You're right, Lawrence, it is cold, and it did make my nose feel a little better. Thank you."

            Lawrence smiled. "You're welcome."
