A twentieth-century medical student finds the love she has been looking for -- in the year 1864. A Time-Travel Romance. Available September of 2000.
You are a modern woman. A medical student. You are happy with your life -- until the day you find an ancient amulet in a trunk in your grandparents attic. Little do you know that the charm has the power to transcend even time itself.
This is the situation that confronts Kristie Somers when she is swept through an echoing tunnel to the year 1864. She is thrust into a battle of wills when Union soldiers invade her ancestral home -- and the even more frightening battle to end slavery. She witnesses the fall of Savannah, Georgia and the fiery destruction of Columbia, South Carolina. She is there when the Ku Klux Klan begins its rein of terror -- yet she knows she cannot change history, even when the great Abraham Lincoln is about to be assassinated.
To complicate matters further, Kristie meets a dashing Union colonel, Eric Langston -- a man haunted by the memory of his dead wife; a man destined to die from alcoholism; a man whom Kristie must try not to love...

"We won't be any trouble, Eric, and we won't get in the way. You won't even know we're there!"
"I'll know, Kristie." He flung out an arm to emphasize his statement. "Hell, every time I turn around, I'll have to save you from the clutches of some overeager young stud!"
"Oh, really, Eric. Don't you think you're over-reacting just a little bit?" She neglected to mention the fact that she had told Charity nearly the same thing only two days earlier.
"No, I'm not over-reacting! If you traveled with the army, the men would immediately assume you were another Prudence Whitman! You wouldn't last a day in the company of four-hundred sex-starved men and, if I tried to interfere, I'd have a mutiny on my hands!"
Kristie's brittle sapphire gaze spit daggers. "The mutiny of four-hundred men wouldn't begin to compare to the wrath of this one woman if you ever mention my name in the same breath as Prudence Whitman's again!"
The moonlight lit the challenge in his dark eyes. "I think you would find that you had met your match in me."
"Well, we'll never know if you don't let me go with you, now will we!"
"No, Kristie!"
"And give me one good reason why not!"
"I just gave you four-hundred good reasons, and here's number four-hundred-and-one!"
He slipped an arm around her waist and pulled her against him, then his hungry mouth sought hers...
