It tells the story of spiritual aliens who need human auras to survive and come to Earth to kidnap humans for their auras, but when they disguise themselves as bears they unwittingly take on their aggressive behaviour. It shows how with trust and belief you can achieve anything. Even escaping and triumphing over aliens! SYNOPSIS Life on the Planet Kirlianus is grim, their Aura Energy Chamber is weakening and no longer do they have spiritual auras but ones with different colours and energies. Soon their thoughts will change from spiritual to negative ones and the planet will die. Their leader Creatus Chakrus notices Earthlings in America with similar auras, so Aurulus and Rubicon lead the crew sent to capture them. Once landed they disguise themselves as bears to avoid being noticed, and unwittingly take on their aggressive energy. Life for the Marling family is settling down after the horrific car crash five years ago when John and Christine were killed. Their partners Steve and Janey have at last admitted their love for each other, but after a night together he loses her when the bears capture her. Janey escapes, and foolishly the town ignore her when told the bears are ‘aliens’. Now the terror begins.    Excerpt SAMPLE CHAPTER OF THE BEARS CHAPTER 16 CAPTURED Janey sat on the bench in Steve’s garden whilst she waited for him to collect the boys. He’d asked her not to change because he wanted Geoff and the rest of the town to see how stunning she looked in her dress and stilettos. She smiled as she looked around the garden at the autumn leaves. Everything was so beautiful, just like her life now. Steve was in love with her and it was such a wonderful feeling! The weather was just starting to change, and as she shivered a little in her thin dress she thought she’d better ask Robbie to pop home and get her a jacket before they went to Scotties. She was barely aware of anyone or anything around her where she was so wrapped up in her thoughts, and was totally unaware that the bears were slowly creeping up behind her. She turned around to see what the noise was when Aurulus stepped on a twig and it cracked. Janey stared at the bears, completely in shock, unable to move or scream. Was she seeing this or not? Bears?? They didn’t have bears around her. Yet, not only had Steve mentioned he’d thought he’d seen a bear last night, but now there was a load of bears around her. She knew she wasn’t supposed to panic or move. Play dead that was it. But how did one play dead when they were shaking with fear? She trembled as Rubicon approached. He looked ferocious, his teeth were bared and his claws were out ready to grab her. But he did have an odd way of walking, she thought, as he staggered towards her on his two paws. Perhaps playing dead was wrong? Perhaps she ought to very slowly walk backwards then try and run towards the house, but what about her stilettos? Would she get them off in time to run before the bear pounced? She was concentrating so hard on watching Rubicon and the bears with him that she never realized that Aurulus was approaching her from behind, until his two paws circled her waist and gripped her. Janey now found her voice and screamed as hard and loud as she could. She struggled to get out of Aurulus’s paws as his sharp claws started to dig into her. She kicked and kicked and tried to hit him with her handbag, but the more she struggled the tighter Aurulus gripped her and in the process Janey lost one of her stilettos, and her handbag fell, scattering its contents all over the floor. “Keep quiet, Earthling, we don’t want to kill you. Not yet anyway!” These were the last words Janey heard before she fainted, partly from the shock of the bear talking to her and partly from fear. Something was very wrong. He called her Earthling! Aurulus panicked as Janey went pale and limp in his arms, with her eyes tightly closed, thinking he had killed her. “What’s wrong with her? Is she dead? Creatus Chakrus will be furious if we’ve killed her. Her aura will be dead and useless.” “I don’t know?” said Rubicon, wondering what they should do next. “We must get her back to the spaceship and look at her there. If we stay here too long the other Earthlings may attack us.” Aurulus threw Janey over his shoulder, and they all lumbered through the forest as fast as they were able and prayed Creatus Chakrus was not watching them and realized there was something wrong with the Earthling. If only they could fly. Didn’t he realize how difficult it was to walk as these strange aliens he’d discovered? As he struggled to carry Janey through the woods Aurulus’s energy started to drop. “I can’t carry the Earthling any longer, if I start dripping I won’t get back in time to use the chamber.” “Give her to me,” said Rubicon. Aurulus put Janey down and as she touched the damp grass she opened her eyes and stared at the bears surrounding her. She saw Rubicon’s claws come towards her and she fainted again as she heard him say, “I’ll have her now.” They were all going to tear her to bits, she thought! Rubicon quickly grabbed her and they hurried to the spaceship anxious to get there before they all expired. He breathed a sigh of relief as they entered the spaceship and he dropped Janey down onto a table, encasing her in a glass dome. Aurulus was right, it was hard work carrying this Earthling and he was also scared she would come to and make that awful singing noise that hurt them so much. He ran into the chamber as Aurulus came out. All of them were now dripping and needed to energise as quickly as possible. Janey slowly opened her eyes. That was the strangest and most terrifying dream she’d ever had and probably all because Steve had mentioned seeing a bear! She turned to tell him about it and realized that not only was she trapped in some sort of chamber, but also that it hadn’t been a dream. It was horribly real and aliens had landed and taken her prisoner! She stared at the Kirlianons as they walked around the spaceship unaware that she was conscious. She looked at their auras in amazement, she could actually see them quite vividly. Some with a black aura and disgusting green gunge dripping from their hands and looked as if they were dying, were waiting to go into a chamber, but when they came out their aura was violet and the gunge had gone and they looked revitalised. Why was someone with such a spiritual aura harming her? Her aura was the same colour as theirs, she knew that because she’d had a photo taken with an aura camera and she would never harm anyone. Were these the same aliens as the bear ones that had captured her? Perhaps there were two lots of aliens in their town and these had rescued her from those awful bear ones? Perhaps she was safe after all? They’d probably encased her in this chamber because they were scared of her! Yes that was it, she thought, no need to worry now, these were very spiritual people they would soon recognize she was the same. She smiled as she looked at Aurulus who having noticed she was all right had breathed a sigh of relief. They hadn’t killed the Earthling after all. He pressed a switch on the outside of the chamber so that she could hear him. “Greetings, Earthling, Janey Marling. We are sorry you are locked in this cabinet but when you make that awful noise you call singing it attacks our auras and makes us dissolve. Fortunately we always come back to life after thirty minutes but we can’t allow our energy to do it too often.” Janey gasped, what a cheek! There was nothing wrong with her singing! She glared at Aurulus and he trembled. The Earthling looked angry, he wished he didn’t have to harm her. She looked very nice until she made that scary face. He must try to explain why they were here on Earth. Surely she would understand that such a spiritual race as the Kirlianons had to be saved? They would try not to kill too many Earthlings! “You are probably wondering why spiritual beings as ourselves wish to harm you?” he continued. “It is only because our planet will die unless we get more auras similar to yours to mend our chamber that we have had to resort to these measures. The Kirlianons are a spiritual race who would normally never harm anyone, that is why we had to morph into these strange creatures you call bears as they are vicious aliens and no one will harm them. Janey now realized the dangerous situation she was in. Those bears and these aliens were the same aliens and they were going to kill her. Wait a minute, they said something about her singing harming them. She quickly started singing as loudly as she could. Aurulus hastily switched the intercom off. Janey could see him talking to her, obviously telling her to shut up, but she couldn’t hear him. Then she remembered that he’d said they’d put her in there so that they couldn’t hear her sing. Damn! What was she going to do now? Aurulus waited until Janey’s mouth closed and switched the intercom back on, but was ready to switch it off if she started that awful noise. He was just going to tell her that they only wanted the rest of her family and would try not to kill any more Earthlings, when Creatus Chakrus appeared on the screen. Janey stared as all the Kirlianons bowed to Creatus. That was obviously their leader, she thought, and decided to keep quiet having realized she could hear every word that was being said. She may find out more about these aliens and also how to escape from the spaceship. “Well done, Aurulus,” said Creatus Chakrus with a big smile for once. “Now where are the other Earthlings?” “We are just going to get them. Janey Marling will be quite safe in there. The only way out of that chamber is by pressing the controls on the outside. She will still be here when we come back with the others.” “Good, then get them as quickly as possibly and return to Kirlianus with them. More people are getting brown auras.” As Creatus Chakrus disappeared from the screen, Janey watched Aurulus and the rest of the Kirlianons morph into bears. She tried not to panic and hoped they weren’t going to kill her as she now knew that was how they were able to harm people. Her eyes opened wide with amazement as Aurulus flew up to the top of the spaceship and pressed a button and the door opened. She could see the forest as the bears left, then the door closed again. She was alone! Now somehow she had to get out of this chamber. She banged hard on the glass then tried kicking it but she was still trapped. A voice in her head said, “don’t panic, just relax. Everything will be all right.” Janey felt a warmth go through her body. She knew her Guardian angel was with her and that she’d just spoken to her. Help was on hand from the highest authority! Up to now she’d never seen her Guardian angel or any other angels, but she always knew they were there and could hear them talking when she allowed herself to relax. Relax! Easier said than done, she thought. How did you relax when you were trapped in an alien spaceship and you knew they were on their way to capture your family? Somehow she had to take control of the situation. She lay down and visualised a white light surrounding her body to protect and comfort herself. Very slowly she made every part of her body completely relax. She mustn’t rush it or else it wouldn’t work. Now she knew what the angel meant. She had to astral project out of her body, and you could only do that if you were completely relaxed and allowed no thoughts to enter your head. Janey’s astral body slowly started to shift inside her physical body. She could feel it going up and down and she had to remain as calm as possible and allow it to leave. Normally it wasn’t a problem because she would have meditated to music and taken a while to get to this stage, but today she didn’t have time for that. Aliens wanted her aura and were on their way to her family so she had to stop them! Janey looked down at her physical body lying still and trapped in the chamber. She’d done it! She was out of her body! She flew down to the control panel and looked at the switches and then willed the energy into her hands to press the control that obviously opened the chamber. It took a lot of effort but the lid suddenly opened. She flew up to the button that opened the spaceship door and concentrated on pressing it. To her relief the door opened Now to get back to her physical body and escape! Janey breathed the air of the forest. She was free! She had to ring Geoff at the station and get him to help her. Then she remembered her mobile was in her handbag and she’d dropped that when she was attacked. She only had one shoe on too, so walking in bare feet was going to be uncomfortable. As she looked at the spaceship door she realized the rest of the ship was invisible. Now how would she find it again if she wasn’t in time to save the others and the aliens brought them back here? Energy, that was how she would know where it was. Everything had energy and a spaceship must surely have loads? She put her hands out and felt the different tingling sensation as she walked around the invisible spaceship. She looked at her surroundings to see if she would remember where it was. It all looked the same. The spaceship was surrounded by trees! One tree looked like the rest. How was she going to identify it? She needed to have something nearby as a marker. But what? Stockings, she was wearing stockings for the first time in years. Thank goodness Josie had persuaded her to change her underwear! Janey removed one of her stockings and tied it to a branch near the spaceship. At least now they would be able to find it again, but for now she needed to get away from the spaceship and try and get back to the family. Her feet hurt as she ran over the bracken and stones but Janey had to ignore the pain and get help. Somehow she had to let Geoff know. He was the sheriff, he could alert all the authorities and help them. Geoff? Oh help, she thought! How on earth was she going to convince Geoff that aliens had landed, and not only did they morph into bears, but also that her singing dissolved them!

The Bears
I really enjoyed reading “The Bears,” It is a good mix, light hearted, with romance, and then almost the reverse with the introduction of the Bears. A bit like human nature – the best and the worst.
