A Voice in the Night

The first time I read A Voice in the Night, I was captured---stopped in my tracks---by the very first poem in the book. And it got even better as I turned the pages. Author

GeorgeAnne Smith in A Light Within wrote, "You are pure love, and are as "One" with all/ Your light is shown, now fully, be it never extinguished/ You light your world You light your way/ When you encounter fellow travelers,/ be not afraid to share your light/ For it is your light within, will lead others/ Be generous in "gifting" what you will,/ on your path "home".

A Voice in the Night contains passionate and inspirational poetry about many subjects the author personally experienced. For instance, about the death of a loved one in her poem, We’ll Meet Again she writes, "When we others leave this plane,/ past the sorrows and the pain,/ we’ll be joined with them again,/ it’s just the beginning, not the end"

And in Natures Gifts, we find appreciation for things often ignored. "A whisper upon unseen wind, as a breeze gently blows./ The quiet stillness of grass/ in awakened earth, it grows/ A gull on the wing, soaring/ over the waves of blue/ Palm trees stand tall, swaying,/ dancing to lovers woo..."

GeorgeAnne Smith is the one in a million-to-one who can feel, and then translate her feelings into words that resonate for the other 999,999. She followed her own advice when she penned, in Awaken This Lifetime, "Go within, find your life theme, clear/ What you find may surprise, delight you/ Follow only your path, but not in fear/ Let love be the force to guide you true."

Interesting To Say The Least......

Canada (3/10/2006) Seventy-five pages of poetic thought on everyday life, including the author’s frustrations with shopping and solicitors, greet the readers of A Voice in the Night, by GeorgeAnne Smith. She also includes a touching homage to the men and women who protect and serve us all. An interesting poem speaks from the view of a person who is shocked to find out someone was molested, when they had no idea it had happened. GoergeAnne’s insightful life skills in Within You struck a chord in my mind that rang for days. I felt a sort of kin-ship with the author through Last Words of a Beauty Queen, a poem full of love for nature - something that is dear to my heart. In The Flow shows that poets are not striving for riches or recognition, but are fueled by the faint hope that their words may ease the journey for another human being and break the chains of their despair by making them feel less alone. With Eyes Open is a poem that refers to the purging effect that writing can have for the writer. I thought that Seeds of Content has an interesting feel to it, reminiscent of chanting. Glimpses of an older style of writing words slightly reversed, such as "searching we are, a golden life" and "on target, we all are" is something that I particularly picked up on. "We are a soulful lot, the "poet"", and excerpt from her poem "Who", is a simple line that for me, sums the entire book. I've dabbled in writing poetry myself, although I'm not professionally published, and I felt completely drawn in by this book. Each poem makes the reader feel as if they are getting to know the author. A Voice in the Night is a wonderfully written book of poems.

The author writes about topics that vary from love to hate, life to death, and every emotion in between. My favorite is "Present Moment", which talks about going through life wondering if you're taking the right path, attempting to live in the past, and realizing that the best gift that we have is the present - "here and now". I've felt like that in the past, and it took a while to begin to live in and enjoy the present time.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys poetry written on a personal level. These poems are written in such a way that you can tell they are from the author's heart, and personally those are the types of poems that I enjoy the most.
