Aging cowboys, feisty little girls, practical jokers and people with unrealized dreams populate these stories. An item from a local newspaper, such as an obituary, a classified ad or gossip column, completes the telling of each tale. The Coulter ranching family figures prominently in several stories. Indeed, at the book’s conclusion, we find that the indomitable Neva Coulter is the fictional author of the book.

"Carol Walt weaves a delightful tapestry of short stories set in the fictional West Texas ranching community of Rosewood. Her characters are warm, human, often funny and resourceful, and they show up in different stories throughout the book. A nice twist is that each piece ends witih an item from a local or city newspaper, such as a classified ad or obituary, that completes the telling of the story."
