Tessa galloped across the flatland, lathered white flank quivering with energy. Taylor, too, tense and frustrated, took the horse’s challenge and rode to test her natural skill. Racing across a crest that sloped toward the river, horse and rider unknowingly cut into a foxhunt in full progress.
Daring the hounds to catch them, Tessa flew across the bank and down the beach. With proficiency normally reserved for a professional rider and the speed of an animal chased by jackals, Taylor and Tessa outdistanced the hounds and disappeared over a crest further down the shoreline.
Watching with interest, a dark-skinned gentleman rider, attired in red jacket, top hat and proper riding boots stood in his stirrups and shouted, "Who is that girl? Where did she come from?" His chocolate eyes searched the horizon through hastily retrieved binoculars.
The lovely lady riding up next to him remarked, "What a devil thing to occur. We could have all been hurt. Someone should see who she is, what she was doing here."
"That," Count Dominic Bartolamucci promised, "is exactly what I intend to do.
