Savannah’s vision went from her throbbing foot up the legs of her visitor. Long legs encased in jeans that, as she followed the body to the face, recognition slowly dawned like the sun from behind a storm cloud. The handsome man standing before her was Roy Carlson, her boyfriend from high school. A man that, by her current calculations, should’ve worn a ring in the neighborhood of the third finger on his left hand. Glancing at his left hand gave her a rousing jolt along her spine. Roy wasn’t married anymore. Or, her wickedly sadistic mind taunted, he was still married and just chose not to wear a ring.
She heard Georgia reply to her statement. A smart aleck remark, no doubt. But her attention focused solely on the slice of heaven standing before her. He still towered over her, still possessed that rugged masculinity she’d always gotten weak-kneed over. And that chocolate brown hair and those beautiful green eyes. To die for…
Roy smiled, “Heard you were back in town. How about a drink?”
“I gotta go," she told her sister. "I’ll see you later.” She clicked off absently while basking in Roy’s killer smile. The smile she fell for in third grade. She often thought it should’ve been illegal or immoral to be that handsome.
“Honey, you look awful,” he said.
She frowned, “I hope you’re not expecting an invitation inside after that statement.” It was half honest, half not. She’d like to catch up on old times but no woman should be subjected to hearing how bad they looked after a long, hard day.
