In Catherine Burr's novel, "Desires and Deceptions," her superbly crafted character, Marissa, takes us on a reflective ride during the heyday of the "Dot Com" era. This mystery romance kept me turning the pages, as drugs, sex, petty class hates, social strata idiocies, college fraternity parties, coming out balls, and the extravagant nouveau rich foibles screamed out from the author's emotional writing.
