In the summer of 1973 the Bruces (Sam Bruce, his wife Belinda and their children: Morgan, 15, Tiffany, 13 and Aurelia {Aura}, 11) went to visit their relations, the Blevinses (Mike and Karen {Belinda's half-sister} and their sole daughter, Trish) in Green River. Sam's brother, Vietnam Vet Gordon Bruce would join them there and the families would then enjoy a pleasant camping trip before returning home just in time to allow Tiffany and her best friend to go to Detroit to see Led Zeppelin in concert at the Cobo Hall.
Or, so they thought ... but the best laid plans of mice and men oft go awry.
One random encounter changed everything, including their lives ... especially that of 13 year-old Tiffany, who would find herself the focus of Robert Rainor's most noble and unwonted intentions.
What would you do to save the world? To save someone you loved ... even from herself?
In 1973 Robert Rainor found himself willing to go to any length ... including kidnapping, to keep a girl from meeting the fate his own sister had met.
Tiffany was a smoker - even more; a devotee of smoking - and in order to save her from herself he found his only chance was to take her from all that she knew and loved. There he would deprogram her like a brain-washed cult member and save her young life. He would bring her to see the error of her ways.
His obstacle was: Her. She did not want to be saved; she obstinately refused to be saved, even from her own folly.
Then, there was her enraged family, seeking for their daughter and willing to kill and die if necessary to get her back.
In this clash of wills there can be no winners.
