With all the strength he had left in his body, he pulled the stones from his wrist and threw them, still glowing red, to the ground. His waning strength returned to him with renewed power. He stood up, not five feet from his father’s closed door. He rushed over and pushed the door, turning the knob to get it open, but it would not budge. Again and again he pushed, trying to reach his father, whom he knew was also in danger. He lowered his shoulder into the solid oak door, banging it one time after another until it gave way, falling off its hinges and crashing to the ground.
