Where he was one of the last boys to bat, that afternoon, his glove sat on the bleachers behind the bench where he and his friends were seated. “That’s it, guys, let’s go home,” the four foot, eight year old Timmy Ferris said, and the boys got up and started to leave the park. Josh stood up and walked out of the park with his friends. He’d gone about a block when he remembered his glove. “I got to go back to the park and get my glove. I’ll see you guys tomorrow,” He said and turned to head back to the park. As he reached the park, a white van was parked near the backstop and he headed over to the bleachers where he’d laid his glove. As he approached the seats, he could see a man sitting on the second row. “Hey mister, did ya see a baseball glove laying around?” Josh asked the six-foot man with a scruffy beard. “You mean this one?” the man asked back and showed the boy a baseball glove he had on the bench beside him. “Yeah, that’s the one,” he replied with a smile. “Thanks!” The man stood and placed his hand on Josh’s shoulder, and said, “Hey, no problem. I’m leaving anyway, so I’ll walk to the van with you.” They approached the van and the man looked around. Seeing as no one was looking, he reached down and grabbed Josh up in his arms and shoved him quickly into the back of the van, slamming the door shut behind him. The van pulled away from the curb with the wheels screeching and Josh screaming in the back, while the first man held him down. “Shut up and be quiet,” the man said as the driver headed to the outskirts of town. 17 DAYS LATER At the local newsstand, in downtown Hartford, the newspaperman held up the morning’s edition, and yelled, “Extra, Extra, read all about it. The missing Masters boy found slain. Extra, Extra…!” The headlines, on that morning’s edition of the newspaper, read: THE BODY OF SEVEN YEAR OLD JOSH MASTERS FOUND SLAIN. At seven-forty, on Tuesday evening May 14th, 1983, the bruised and battered body of seven-year-old Josh Masters was found on the side of the road near New Haven on Interstate 84, by the driver of a disabled vehicle. His CB radio call brought the state police to the scene within minutes. The boy had been missing since Sunday, April 14th when he returned to Lambert Park, on Elm Street, to retrieve a baseball glove he'd left behind and he hadn't been heard from since. It was not known at this time if the boy had been sexually molested, or not, and a full autopsy was scheduled to be performed later today, by the Hartford Police Department. The exact cause of death is not known. Several suspects have been brought in for questioning and were released. The boy's parents and sister have been ruled out as suspects in Josh's disappearance.

“Destiny of the Divas” by Ernie Johnson, was indeed different. An all girl band, brought together by lightning and a sister’s overwhelming desire to find the guilty party responsible for the death of her brother.
Hand chosen by Destiny, each band member finds themselves in the middle of a bizarre initiation into the world of music, and in their off time…magic…sort of.
With super-natural powers, Destiny’s Desire makes its way to the top of the music industry while finding kidnapped children all in the name of Destiny. One by one, cases of missing children are solved through the help and relentless pursuit of the band.
I loved the powers each girl possessed and the way they outed the bad guys. Their unwavering desire to help is only matched by the immense talent they find was within themselves all along.
The only disappointment I felt with this book was that the capture of Destiny’s brother Josh’s kidnappers/murderers was over so quickly. After the horrible things they did to him, I wanted to see their price come more dearly. The take down was too easy for me.
All in all, the story idea here was new and innovative as far as mysteries go. I think young, teenage girls would really enjoy this book.
