Over the years, I have come to the conclusion that pain management and prevention goes way beyond finding solutions to immediate concerns. It has become increasingly clear to me that lifestyle choices directly impact our physical condition. In addition to the physical aspects of life, I have found that the intellectual, emotional, and spiritual dimensions have an important part to play in well-being. If managed properly, a balanced lifestyle can lead to a healthy and positive outcome. It can offer new hope as preventive actions will certainly minimize degenerative illnesses such as arthritis. In my opinion, this balanced lifestyle should take the form a >holistic= approach to living.

At the height of my misery with the arthritic pain, I discovered Dr. Levine, a medical practitioner who told me that my body was full of toxins. He suggested a thorough cleansing of the system by having me abstain from a variety of known irritants such as red meat, caffeine, refined sugar, refined flour, salt, and yeast, to name but the most important. The cleansing process lasted one month, at which time he allowed me to slowly, methodically, be reintroduced to small amounts of the irritant substances. His goal was to rid my body of any substances that caused irritation or inflammation. According to Dr. Levine, keeping such a strict regimen would be very difficult, particularly at first. To make sure I followed his program, he allowed me to disregard the restrictions one day a week. It took about three months for me to feel the difference. But once I did, the level of pain subsided to such an extent that I was convinced of the value of a better diet. Over the years, I have attempted to stick to this regimen. When I follow this dietary approach, I feel better, have more energy, and the bouts of arthritis are much less severe.
Through trial and error, I was able to rid myself of chronic pain, which allowed me to pursue excellence and success. In attempting to reach success, I discovered that finding my passions in life led directly to less stressful home and work situations, which in turn had positive impacts on my health. It was then that I concluded that health and success are inextricably linked.
