Her face was a bit fuzzy. Overly illuminated to the point where the contrast was difficult to focus upon, the Blessed Mother that was there speaking to Billy seemed to be slowly fading away from him.
Fearing that he was losing the most important thing that ever happened to him caused Billy to cry out even louder: “Don’t go. Don’t leave me. I said I would try to help you.”
“Thank you,” the vision whispered. “This is what must be done.” She began to shake as if she were melting. “William, what happens here and now is not to be discussed with anybody.”
“I won’t tell anyone.” He paused, waited, and then felt even more confused then before. “But, I don’t know anything.”
“I had to make sure that you were worthy of such a heroic deed.” She lifted her head and her smile was so beautiful that Billy understood what people meant when they said they could cry from happiness. “Now I am sure. I know you will not tell anyone what I am about to tell you. Remember, you promised me.”
“I remember.”
“Good,” she said. “Now Billy, this may seem strange to you. I have killed a man here tonight.”
