Professional Reviews

Flavorful
"Sliced Ice Cream" is Tammy Whisman's second book and a very good flavorful one at that. Tammy's poetry is deep and intense, full of a lot of meaning. To savor each poem one must read slowly to appreciate the artistic talent Tammy has for poetry.

I hope Tammy does not mind that I have posted a few of my favorites, starting with a Haiku she wrote near the end of the book.

Yellow dotted lawn
a garden of mom flowers
honeybee pit stop

A garden of Mom Flowers doesn't that just say it all when it comes to dandelions and what they mean to a child.

The following is about fitting in.... absorb Tammy's words here:

Fitting In

An anomaly that exist
within a society of clones,
living without being

Bewildering to most
for they are blinded
by what isn't understood

A baffling puzzle
unable to be solved
for a square won't fit
within a circle

Some are very thought provoking such as in Moving On where she reveals that with time the pain is healed until finally the memory is only a minor annoyance. I loved it!

Lastly one of my favorites is an uplifting way to look at the rest of our lives the way Tammy describes for herself.

Living

In happiness, I welcome
the rest of my life;
the losses that I have suffered
help to shed light
on my existence
before I lived just because,
now I live with determination,
inspired
by the limited amount of time
that is left to experience
all I can
while here on earth

I thought this was a great book of poetry, flavorful and smooth, varied, and full of great, delicious, extras as are in a slice of your favorite ice cream.

I highly recommend Tammy Whisman's Sliced Ice Cream

Delightful
Poetry is always hard to explain. I feel that this author has written a lot of despair into her poetry. There are however, light and arduous poems in between the deep thoughts. The referrals to the seasons help mark the time throughout this book. Feelings, emotions, thoughts, love, despair and all the emotions one could ever imagine are entered throughout the various poems.

Slice Ice Cream is a book of poetry listing despair and melancholy along with those delightful little tidbits that one likes to see. I am sure the true poet in everyone will find something to tickle their fancy within these pages.

Painting Pictures With Words..
"...Ms. Whisman paints pictures with various amounts of words. It could be just a simple four-sentence paragraph or it could take two pages. She is able to express feelings and emotions so well that I was surprised at how much could be conveyed in so little words."

My favorite poems were A Dreamer’s Heart, Ever Hopeful, Morning Time, and Reading Between The Lines. Even though A Dreamer’s Heart is not always possible in this world, this poem expresses how to keep trying. Ever Hopeful was just beautifully written. It not only painted a picture in how the words were falling as the word falling was used but it is one of my favorite types of poems. Morning Time is all about enjoying winter and just looking at what it does to Nature. Words used to describe things really had me picturing everything that had happened. Reading Between The Lines captured my attention with the simple fact that Ms. Whisman put into words what we need to do every day in our lives. People may say one thing but it is what they are not saying is what we should listen to.

".... all in all, I was impressed with her ability to write them. I felt like I was getting a peak into her world not only her thoughts about nature but what is important to her in her own personal life.... She is definitely someone I would love to read more of her poems."
