On a farm near a small town west of San Antonio, Johanna Bauer, a widow with two children, is struggling to survive. The story unfolds with the appearance of Logan Delaney, a Texas Ranger. He is hunting an outlaw named Joe Greene. Johanna and Logan are attracted to one another but deny their feelings. Johanna does not want to give up her independence, and Logan is not ready to make a commitment. Logan captures Greene but he escapes, robs the bank, and kidnap’s Johanna’s son. She blames Logan and the hunt begins all over again. Will Logan rescue Johanna’s son before the outlaw kills him? The story takes more unexpected twist and turns before Johanna and Logan come to terms with their true feelings.

The rawness of the Old West is realistic while at the same time she adds the small details of home life on the frontier. The story drew me in, kept me turning pages until the end and left me longing for more. I look forward to reading more from this talented author.

There is the widow, raising her children and caring for the land left to her by her late husband, and the Ranger, a courageous, mysterious man who came looking for an outlaw, not a wife. Both people are drawn together by circumstance and need. The fact the story is based on real events and real people is intriguing.

I enjoyed reading this historical novel based on details of one family's true history that were passed down through several generations. It is a warm and engaging love story with many surprises and turn arounds. It held my attention all the way through. Sometimes I felt that I was seeing it as a movie in my mind's eye, a Western chick movie, at that. I recommend it.
