Kim Bennett stood still, her head was spinning and she was not sure whether to sit down or stand as Nicolai moved toward her. He looked beautiful. The cubicle with its large table could easily sit eight, and with the drapes shut afforded the luxury of an additional four feet of open space.
He moved closer and extended his arms, Kim stepped forward, and in the tight space Nicolai managed to circle her taking in her physical beauty.
She felt his presence press against her back, and lifting her hair his hand brushed her neck sending a rapid shiver through her body. Kim tilted her head, relaxed her shoulders, and deliberately inhaled and exhaled slowly to control her thundering pulse.
With her hair flowing over his face, Nicolai stopped moving. “Your scent will stay with me forever.” He filled his lungs and continued, “I didn’t know it would be like this.”
“Do you remember the moment we first saw each other?” Kim said, her eyebrow rising seductively. “I couldn’t take my eyes from you.”
Nicolai slipped his hands down along her sides and nervously lifted her sweater over her head. “I wanted you from that first glimpse, all of you.”
She took his hands in hers and guided them up her abdomen. Cupping each breast, he lifted and squeezed them taking her breath away.
Facing him she popped open her jeans, slid out of them, and stood naked for his approval. His smile gave her the reassurance she was anticipating and quickly she unbuttoned his shirt, dropped it on the floor, unzipped his pants, and admired his firmness.
“Are you ready?” he said.
Squeezing her thighs together, Kim placed her hands on his forehead, tilted his face to the side, exposed his carotid, and placed her lips on his smooth skin.
His fingers ran down Kim’s neck, “Do you feel that?” Then he pointed to a spot beside a vein in his throat. “Place your lips there, press hard, and suck. Now rake your teeth over the skin until you can taste blood.”
“Shit.”
“What is it?” Nicolai said.
“My teeth, the edges have become sharp.”
“You’re doing it,” he breathed.
Kim could feel the throbbing in his neck, her mouth filled and tongue licked at the wound drawing more of the fluid down her throat.
Nicolai urging her on, inching his fingers along her collarbone her skin responded, and Kim’s face flushed. The passion was overwhelming. She dragged her nails along his back, feeling for the small indentations at the base of his spine, and then moved further down until she was supporting his muscular cheeks with each hand. The fervor had taken over, Kim couldn’t hold back any longer, she reached around cupping him with one hand, the other found his shaft, and she began teasing him. With a firm pulsating grasp she squeezed and relaxed repeating the throbbing motion over and over until she heard Nicolai moan and tense up.
Kim pulled back, Nicolai held his breath, and with a mouthful of the slippery crimson liquid shared it with him. He was delirious with the embrace and violently thrust into her.
“Don’t move,” she whispered. “I want to feel you inside of me.”
His arms wrapped around her, but the animal in him took over and he began to move deep and slow. Guiding him to the table, Kim forced Nicolai to his back, straddled him and like wild wolves, they feverishly glistened with sweat and played to each others cravings. Their skin slapping against each other with a wet suction sound filled the room as Kim drove her round hips into him, and impaled, the pain was pleasure.
Surprised by her own insatiable appetite, Kim arched her back and released every drop of tension with a long heart stopping shutter. Burying into the nape of his neck, she nuzzled his skin, and licked the drops of sweat from his throat; it contained the fragrance, the scent she would never forget.
Out of breath, Kim sat upright and cleared her throat. She ran her tongue over her lips, and for the first time let herself accept the undisputed truth, she was a vampire.
“Yes you are.”
“You’re reading my thoughts,” Kim said. “I can block you can’t I?”
He frowned, “If you want.” Then he grasped Kim tight around the waist and smiled. “But I’ll always find you, I’m a good hunter.”
“What happens now?” Kim asked.
There was a silent moment, “With us?” Nicolai knew the meaning to Kim’s question, not only was it about them but also the Black Testament. “We find the last piece of the Testament, destroy it, maybe hide it.”
Nicolai had a concerned look, “You know they’re coming after us?” he said. “I knew the moment I accepted your journey someone would be gunning for me.”
“Then why did you do it?”
“It’s easy to explain, I knew you were special...I just knew in my heart you and I were destined to be together,” he said.
Kim turned her head to hide her smile. She was in love like a school girl and it was embarrassing. “We’d better get going.”
She jumped off the table, grabbed her clothes, and started to get dressed. Nicolai didn’t move. His eyes studied every curve of her body, memorizing her beauty.
“You’re a stunning woman.”
Kim had her back to him and grinned, he loved her, and she knew it. In that moment she wished all this was behind them. The thought of having a haven of vampires after them was not a good thing.
“You said...you knew where it was?” Nicolai’s tone was worried. “Are you sure?”
“I got a feeling when Rose and I were at her house. I didn’t know it then, but after we left I couldn’t shake it. We need to go back there.”
“Okay.” Nicolai murmured.
“There is something about Rose’s father," she said. You’ve never met him have you?”
“All I know is that he’s dying.”
“If she had it, none of this would be happening. So it has to be her father,” Kim said. “He goes back to my childhood, and he knows...” Kim was absolutely right, Thomas Nicholls knew things about Kim that nobody else did.
“Knows what...” Nicolai asked.
“He knows who I am.”

Blood Bar is a paranormal thriller that will have you turning the pages quickly beginning to end. This is not your kiddy vampire book and not for the weak. Those who loved Anne Rice’s Vampire books will love Norm Applegate’s wild and scary world which makes Anne Rice seem tame. Applegate creates a very graphic and violent story filled with blood, gore, and sex. He keeps you thrilled page to page, have you wondering/searching for reality and thirsting for more.

Kim Bennett is about to discover a world that humans do not know exist, and she is not even so sure she believes what she is destined to be a part of. When an old friend, Rose, calls to tell Kim about a murder and that she is needed to help find out who killed Rose's lover, Kim will find more things out about her ancestry and her future in a very short amount of time. Dodging being killed herself, and trying to find all the pieces to The Black Testament in order to understand her fate, she falls in love with the most powerful vampire in the city.
Always on the run, Kim has to stop running and face the facts. A blood thirsty blood doll is ready to jump in for the kill, and a Native American detective that sees "things", wants to make a deal with the big man in charge; and the saddest part of all, a good friend is forced to kill someone she loves. But Nicolai does something sort of sadistic, in hopes of finding out the truth about Jack the Ripper, The Black Testament, and Kim Bennett.
Blood Bar by Norm Applegate is a paranormal thriller that will keep you intrigued from the start. It holds a lot of mystery and unknowns that eventually reveal themselves. A strong heroine that is used to "roughing it" in the world of S&M finally understands the reason why she is the way she is. Role playing vampires, or do vampires really exist? Dive in to the world and mind of Norm Applegate as he paints vivid pictures of blood, gore, and sex, in Blood Bar. 4.5 Hearts

Thoughts: What a unique book. The theme of vampires is something I have read a lot about over the last few years and is something I enjoy - but I really have a hard time comparing this book to anything else that I have read. And that is a good thing. The heroine Kim isn't necessarily likable. She is a hard woman that has a past that has caused her to be the way she is. She likes sex -and she likes it the way she likes to have it (but mind you this book isn't about the sex though it is a theme that winds its way through the story).
But despite Kim not being a character I would want to be friends with the story has so much of a different twist to it that I just didn't mind. This isn't a story that I wanted to identify with. But the theme of it, the way it progresses still keeps me entertained. 4.5 Stars
