The story of a young girl robbed of her royal birthright by the gruesome murder of her parents at her uncle's behest. Left alone on a strangely deserted island to fend for herself she survives by dint of her parent's teachings and a strange inner knowledge.

Saving a castaway from certain death she nurses him back to life and romance blossoms between them. Their life on the island is interupted by the arrival of a group of people who have fled from her uncle's depredations.

Unbeknown at first to them, her long thought to be dead sister is among this group as well as a traitor who steal sa boat and flees to tell the uncle that she is still alive as well as her now very much alive identical twin.

This is the story of how they overcome a subsequent attack to capture them and take them back to the mainland for the uncle to supervise their death, and how, they  do in fact return to their homeland and after overthrowing their tyrannical uncle and his mother, they set up what is probably the first form of representative government. 

There is a strange twist at the end.
