Based upon the writings of Ernest Becker, primarily his 1973 Pulitzer Prize winning, The Denial of Death, The Human Manifesto convincingly demonstrates that human beings are socialized by family upbringing, education, friends and media indoctrination to construct illusions – Life Immortality Elusions, or LIEs – to enable them to infuse their lives with meaning and purpose in order to repress their awareness of the stark reality of death.

Thus, that is what cultures are and always have been – systems of beliefs offering action methods to their members for the construction of LIEs that motivate and direct behavior providing self-esteem and meaning in their lives to order to deny the reality of death, and the sub-conscious psychological terror which the knowledge of death evokes.

The problem for humanity has been that the LIEs fostered by past and present cultural belief systems have motivated humans to engage in destructive and trivial behaviors that have failed the human species to reach its highest spiritual, intellectual and technological potential and thus leaves it vulnerable to extinction by natural or man-made cataclysm.

What The Human Manifesto radically proposes is a rejection of the LIEs inspired by present cultural systems and replacing them with a Genuine Hero System offering methods of self-esteem/LIE construction based upon beliefs which sanctify the human species as well as the individual and the existence of God. These methods motivate actions that are intended to increase the quality of life for other humans, enhance the survivability of the human species, and inspire a quest to discover the true nature of God and the Cosmos through spiritual and scientific examination.

Only by such radical change of illusion, only be adopting the ideal LIE motivated by the Genuine Hero System, can mankind avoid what Ernest Becker feared was the ultimate destiny for the human species which the evolutionary trait of superior intelligence and its offspring, consciousness or self-aware of the reality of death, engenders – doom.
