Beyond what is humanly possible, Christian starts to change. He starts to have powers little boys dream of while reading comic books. Christian doesn’t realize he has those very powers for a reason. He’s being called to do something truly remarkable and out of this world. While he’s struggling with his very powers, his mind is raging with questions, never answered. In reality, he is not alone in this world. Strangers start coming to his aid, all trying to lead him to his true calling. Can Christian stand his ground and walk through the fires of Hell? Which side will he take?
As Christian stared in shock at the bullet spinning slowly before his eyes he remembered words he had read before. “…And in those days men shall seek to take their lives, but death shall flee from them.”

Stephanie Gibbs knows how to tell a spellbinding story. As her novel Christian’s Calling (2009, PublishAmerica) opens, 38-year-old John Christian is stuck in a traffic jam, and reflecting on his tribulations. His most recent girlfriend absconded with most of his worldly possessions, but her theft and betrayal are only the most recent in John’s lifetime of grief and disappointment. When he witnesses a man beating his girlfriend in an adjacent car, John is enraged and knows he has to do something about it.
In the process, John discovers an unnerving truth about himself: he’s much, much stronger than he ever imagined, almost like a comic book superhero. John is frightened by his newfound powers. He is subsequently torn between good and evil impulses, as he narrates in the following excerpt:
“I have good within and yet I have evil within as well. I’m like

Gibbs blends heart-pounding action with John’s introspection. Through the novel, she hints at Christian imagery of the end of the world. Is John losing his mind? Or could he possibly be marked for an important purpose in the world? Gibbs keeps the reader guessing as John’s soul is in turmoil, torn between the Savior he accepted as a child and the devil.
