The daughter was about my age and very cute. After they bought the phone and signed up, they inquired about how to use some of the features. I explained how to plug in the numbers and save names. Then I demonstrated how to do it by deliberately typing in my own phone number and saving it as “Customer Service.” The daughter got the hint and called me a few days later. We’ve been dating ever since. A number of e-mails at our law firm go out to the entire firm. A partner in the firm received one of these e-mails while he was flying on an airplane. He read the e-mail, then absentmindedly put his BlackBerry down on the seat next to him and dozed off. The BlackBerry slipped under him and he inadvertently sent a reply to the entire list on that e-mail—every single person in the firm—with a part of his anatomy not customarily used for typing. Somehow he hit a combination of l’s and m’s, so the response that came back to all of us was, “mmmmmmmmmm lllllllllmmmmmmmmm, llllllllllllll, mmlllllllllmmlllm.” We loved it so much we printed it out! Apparently he has a very dexterous posterior. A Jersey City driver was pulled over by police because his registration had expired. The driver told the officer that he just hadn’t gotten around to renewing it. He was admonished by the officer who told him that it was no excuse—especially since it was easy to renew online. The officer said he would have to issue a summons and call for a tow truck because it was illegal for unregistered vehicles to be on the road. The driver found the renewal form tucked behind the visor in his car. While the officer was writing up the ticket in his patrol car, the resourceful driver called a friend on his cell phone, quickly gave him the required credit card and access code information, and had the friend renew for him online. When he was handed the ticket, the driver told the astonished officer that the car was now registered. The officer confirmed it and canceled the tow truck. The driver still got ticketed but his ingenuity and cell phone spared him from having to go to the pound to retrieve his car.
