When I was a child, my mother tucked me in with kiss and a little poem, "Night, night, sleep tight...don't let the bedbugs bite!!!!" YIKES! It scared the heck out of me!

Thankfully, author Melody Rhodes' delightful new book, The Bedbug Who Wouldn't Bite, puts a different and not-at-all scary spin on the age-old bedbug story. Rhodes' wide-eyed, whimsical bedbug isn't interested in stinging little arms and legs, just getting a good night's sleep! Fun!

Bedbug is Delightful Whimsy
Some of the best books are those that take commonly held beliefs, or an idea that's generally agreed upon, and turn it all upside down. By doing this in a positive way you can often create a delightful situation that tweaks the imagination and tickles our inner impish, creative side.

That's what accomplished Canadian writer MELODY RHODES has done in producing the charming, and just oh-so-super-sweet "THE BEDBUG WHO WOULDN'T BITE" series of children's books. The main character, yes, is a bedbug. But before you conjure up an image of those creepy crawly little critters that have made a huge comeback in recent years - think instead of a fuzzy-wuzzy cute little guy who chooses to swim against the stream - he may be a bedbug, but he simply will not bite! He only has one goal: "Not to bite, but to sleep tight!" But wait! Maybe he has an additional goal - to be friends with your kids! (Everyone in unison now: "Awwwwwww.")

Certainly this is bedtime book that will delight tots and even older children. Sleep Tight With Bedbug
In this charming book, there's a delightfully new twist to the rhyme I recall in a children's book of my daughter's:- Night, night, sleep tight - don't let the bedbugs bite. If they do squeeze them tight and they won't bite another night...

In complete contrast, the sweet orange coloured bedbug with purple legs in this book has no inclination to bite at all. In fact, all he wants to do is - sleep, and he knows every single excuse the child of his bed will use to try to prevent it.

I can see my grandchildren will agree with Bedbug. Sleep is a wonderful idea. Beautifully written and illustrated, this book is a new treasure for my grandchildren's bookcase.
