Miriam Carney, a Registered Nurse, has developed a spiritual approach to manage mild to moderate anxiety. Miriam uses The Serenity Prayer as the base for her method.

One summer morning, after Miriam had her coffee, she just didn't feel "right."  She couldn't quite put her finger on it.   She worked in the local hospital as a Registered Nurse.  She had a few days off, so work wasn't an issue.  She really didn't have very much going on, so she shouldn't have felt stressed out.  Yet, something didn't feel right.  She began to pray that God would take this feeling away.  It was then that God gave her Just Erase It.  He  answered  her prayer.  She was able to determine "what" was bothering her.  She knew if she had made an appointment to see her doctor, she may have walked away with a prescription for an anti-anxiety medication . . . afterall, that was what she was experiencing . . .mild anxiety.

Just Erase It sounds so very simple but in actuality, it is simple!  By following the steps Miriam outlines in her book, anxiety needn't be the enemy that we all make it out to be.  We just have to give it a name . . . and in Miriam's case, it was Just Erase It.

Excerpt

WHAT IS ANXIETY

Anxiety is best described as a personal sense of uneasiness or dread. The Latin word for anxiety is"anxitus," which means to choke or to strangle. Perhaps that is the reason why people who suffer from various forms of anxiety think they need to see a medical doctor the first time they experience an "anxiety" attack. Major forms of anxiety include panic and obsessive-compulsive disorder or post-traumatic stress syndrome. It should also be noted that some anxiety could be linked to disease processes such as pulmonary emboli (blood clot(s) to the lung), myocardial infarction, thyroid disease, as well as many other diseases, which display signs of anxiety.

This book will concern itself with both mild and moderate forms of anxiety. For the purpose of Just Erase It, my own definition of anxiety will be used. Let’s just say that anxiety is having too much on your plate. You lose the ability to know what to eat first. Although this is a simple way to define anxiety, I truly believe that anxiety is the inability to prioritize or to figure out what part of a situation is controllable and which part isn’t. The disorder of anxiety is also referred to as a “panic” attack. Some people wonder if we inherit anxiety disorders. It is possible to inherit an anxious nature or develop an anxious disposition. This is especially true if we live around anxious people.

Another consideration regarding anxiety is that there are times when anxiety isn’t necessarily a BAD thing. Anxiety can be a motivating factor. For instance, if you find yourself in a very stressful job, which is creating off the charts anxiety, sooner or later, you will leave the job JUST to deliver yourself of the anxiety that the job appears to be creating.

What is peculiar about anxieties is that your anxiety is not my anxiety. For instance, some people may get anxious while crossing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. Some travelers wouldn't even consider crossing the 17.6 mile Bay Bridge Tunnel. Yet, others would welcome the chance to cross this four-lane, vehicular toll crossing the lower Chesapeake Bay. There are actually two, one mile tunnels as part of the bridge from one part of the Eastern coast of Virgina and Hampton Roads, Virgina. I have crossed this monumental feat of mankind. I feel slightly anxious while crossing the tunnel, but the anxiety doesn't stop me from taking the trip.

The following are emotional symptoms of anxiety:
Feelings of apprehension or dread
Trouble concentrating
Feeling tense and jumpy
Anticipating the worse
Irritability
Restlessness
Watching for signs of danger
Feeling like your minds gone blank

The following are the physical signs of anxiety:
Pounding heart
Sweating
Stomach upset or dizziness
Frequent urination or diarrhea
Shortness of breath
Insomnia

As I was typing this list of physical and emotional symptoms, I had to chuckle to myself. I have a terrible fear of flying. I get anxious just thinking about flying, let alone actually boarding a plane. Do I fly? Sure I do, because it is the quickest way to get from point A to point B. Do I “watch for signs of danger”? I sure do. I listen for any sound that I have never heard before. I even go so far as to ask the person next to me, “What's that noise?” They usually reply, “Oh, that is only the landing gear, Miss.” Does that relieve my anxiety? Heck no! My knuckles would remain a white, powdery color until we finally landed.

We all experience anxieties. It is just a matter of what they are. It is my hope through Just Erase It, readers will become more aware of their anxieties. Realize you are anxious then make a plan. Find out what you can or cannot do to help yourself through it. But, the very first step is to become aware that you are anxious. If I am hanging on for dear life to the armrest while on the airplane, you can be sure I am anxious. To tell someone otherwise, it would be a downright lie. I own being anxiety ridden while I fly. Physically, I have been known to sweat, experience my heart racing, etc. There are countless anxieties. Hopefully, through going through my plan to just erase anxiety, the reader will help himself or herself—drug free.
