First in the series. Cindy Travels to San Antonio only to end up being snatched from her truck by a mad man.
After waking up in a strange vehicle, Cindy realizes that she is in danger. Using her head, she escapes then runs for her life through the dark woods. Waking the next morning in a mist-covered field, she ends up on the doorstep of a familiar-looking man with no idea who she is or where she is at.
With the help of this nice cowboy she finds out who she is, then finds out that she landed at the doorstep of her favorite author, Kinky Friedman. Together they try to find her kidnapper to clear her name once her cell phone is found in the hand of a badly mutilated woman. Once they discover the mutilated woman is just one of several, they begin to discover body after body as they get closer to finding the killer.

“Good morning, sunshine,” Ben chirped as he gave me a wink.
I just glowered at them then lay back down. I lay there wondering what kind
of day it was going to be. If Ben had the list of permits we were going to
compare them to the listings we had to see if any matched or were nearby. I
wanted our madman caught so I could go on with my life. I wanted to put all
this behind me and hopefully get away from yet another mistake I had made.
I knew Kinky was a mistake and I hoped in my heart of hearts that I had not
messed up by giving into my desires.
Ben walked over then sat on the sofa by my curled-up feet. I tried to ignore
him but he was rubbing my bare feet with those strong hands of his. When he
hit a spot that tickled I jumped and laughed.
“There I prefer the smile over the look of death you gave me,” Ben admitted
as he continued to rub my feet.
“Ben, why do you insist on touching me?”
“I like you, Cindy; you’re a lot of fun and I enjoy your company.”
“You know I’ve got a thing for Kinky, right?”
