It was late, The moon had risen and the night symphony was in full force. Crickets chirped at their rivals, the frogs, and dominated the night chorus. Only one sound was foreign--a whimper from under the ferns. At the base if the largest pine in the woods was a small form crying, moaning, and whimpering. Black hair, matted and dirty, hung in long ropes down the front of the girl. She had been in this spot for hours, at least that is what it felt like to her. Stretching, she cried out in pain. The blood-covered welts burst open only to bleed again. Her back was wet with blood and her dress was torn and useless.
