Confucius thought that education, that is learning, was good for people and helped bring order to society. The king, or emperor, of a country should rule the people with ‘humanheartedness,’ that is showing love to the people as well as showing them respect. Master K’ung as he is sometimes known, told people that love for each other can be learnt. He also believed that love for those around you can grow. By being polite, honest and helpful, each person can help one another. Confucius said that if you do good to others, they will do good to you. He also said that the king, or emperor, should be the best example of these things and do the best for his people. Also, he suggested that anyone who does the best and good things, such as being polite, honest and helpful, can become a perfect person.
Confucius also believed in showing respect for those who had been alive beforehand, those called ancestors, and that if people did not show them respect and honour them, then those ancestors might interfere in their lives now. Although, Confucius did not talk a lot about Heaven, he did believe that the ancestors lived somewhere after their deaths.
