Having never visited a Doctor or Hospital his entire life it tells how, with the correct mindset and attitude, he faced these fears and emotions head-on and overcame them.
Ican see the soft drizzle of rain through my bedroom windows as the wind gently moves the many beautiful white standard roses which I had pruned only six weeks earlier in our lovely garden.
It was lunchtime on Sunday, 27th September 2009, I felt very emotional and relieved to have just arrived home after a week in Hospital.
Somehow, I had managed to overcome my biggest fear in life, Hospitals. I had survived major abdominal surgery, was alive and home to start my recovery program.
Throughout my life, I have been blessed with extremely good health. This has allowed me to participate in all the sporting activities that I loved. At one stage, I was an active member of seven different sports clubs at the same time, allowing me the opportunity to participate in the highest competitive leagues and at inter-district levels. I had prided myself at being a fitness fanatic for years and just loved and lived for playing sport.
I never ever had to visit a doctor, let alone a hospital my entire lifetime. The mere thought of hospitals made me extremely jumpy and nervous and was therefore a total „no-go‟ zone for me. I was so petrified of that ever happening, that I always said to my family, should the time
ever come that I needed admittance to a hospital, then the medical team would need to “Dart me from a Helicopter” to get me there.
WE HAVE ABSOLUTLY NO CONTROL OVER OUR FUTURE
My time to experience the inner sanctum of a hospital had eventually caught up with me and it was with this in mind that I decided to document the series of events that happened to me during this chapter, the most traumatic and terrifying “Thirty One Days” of my life.
