"At last my body was complete. The intricately designed pieces of cherry-wood sat atop my delicately hand rubbed side panels. The etched glass in my door gleamed brightly with its own fine design.
He sat us, close to the front of the shop, where a mirror reflected our image. For the first time we could see ourselves. That shinny brass plate, with a hole in it, had a face with funny looking things all around it. (Later we learned they were called numbers) Strange finger-looking things called hands moved around magically as the works continued to tick-tock its way, pushing them around the numbers so people could read the time. We became friends, bonded with the works, and soon discovered we could not get along without them.
It seemed like Rosie and I, the works, the face, and the hands sat in that window forever. It was fun to watch the people go by and admire us. The women would stop, and with white-gloved hands point at us and smile. We could not hear what they were saying, but it was easy for us to see that we were the topic of conversation for all who walked by."
